Where we are now
The map shows our 41 projects based around the UK, along with the 45 Depaul Nightstop UK affiliated schemes. Here is just a snap-shot of the types of projects we have.
Reconnect Manchester
Reconnect Manchester helps 15-19 year old young people and their families when relationships are breaking down. It provides mediation and support, so that relationships can be improved and young people do not become homeless. This enables the young people to stay safe and encourages them to reach their educational potential. The project also delivers ‘Parenting your Teenager’ courses, enabling parents to learn techniques to improve communication and boundary setting. The weekly sessions are supplemented by individual family support and one day workshops.
Urban Alternatives, Manchester Manchester’s Cathedral Gardens fills with hundreds of young people, mostly from alternative youth cultures, each weekend. The project employs Peer Youth Workers to help generate ideas for positive use of time and to encourage volunteering, pro-social behaviour and considerate use of the space among the group. The project also produces a website enabling young people to socialise online, organise events and share information about the issues which matter to them as young city centre users.
Outside Link Brinsford, Wolverhampton Based at HMYOI Brinsford, Outside Link helps young and adult prisoners to secure accommodation prior to release from prison. The role of the worker is to engage the prisoner in a one to one working relationship to look at all aspects of resettlement planning. They also assist the prisoner in recognising where things went wrong, with a view to putting together a plan of action for positive change. Workers aim to set up support networks in the community where prisoners will live after their release.
