We asked our three Regional Managers… ‘WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES AND ASPIRATIONS?’

Kieran Walsh – Regional Manager North West

Kieran came to Depaul UK as Regional Manager in 2001 and has been involved in the development of all our services across the North West. He is particularly proud of the success that has been achieved for hard-to-reach young people by giving them the dedicated services they deserve. Kieran is deeply concerned that the cuts in government funding will be most felt by those who are most in need. His 21st birthday wish: “I’d like to see a commitment from central and local government to provide more high support accommodation for those young people with the most complex needs. They're the ones who need most investment and support when times are tight.”

Steve McKinlay – Regional Manager North East

Steve came to Depaul UK as a Life Skills Tutor back in 2001. He left for a while before returning as Deputy Regional Manager in 2006 and became Regional Manager a year later. He sees the development of a Young People’s Inclusion Policy as a particular milestone. The greatest challenge Steve sees us facing today are the constantly moving bureaucratic goalposts of local and national government. His 21st birthday wish: “I’d like to see a commitment from government to ensure that there is not another ‘lost generation’ and I hope that we, at Depaul UK, will continue to help young people achieve their full potential from which ever starting point they are at.”

Andrew McKnight – Regional Manager London & South East

Andrew came to Depaul UK as a volunteer at one of our London hostels. Four years later he was Deputy Manager! He left for a while, returning in 2005 as Regional Manager. Andrew has been most struck by Depaul UK’s rapid growth. He has a particular concern for young people caught up in the judicial system, seeing a strong link between homelessness and offending behaviour. His 21st birthday wish: “I'd like to see fewer young people going to prison and more money coming our way so that we can help young people see beyond a life of crime.”
