The James Whale Fund is the UK’s leading kidney cancer charity and was set up in 2006 by broadcaster James Whale who lost a kidney to cancer. Today James continues to lead a full


and busy life, as do the majority of people who are diagnosed and treated early.


James says, “Every year almost 7000 people in the UK learn that they have kidney cancer and yet the condition – the eighth most common cancer among men – rarely attracts much public attention. Our mission at the James Whale Fund is to try and change that.”


The James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer has joined forces with Food Scientist Kumud Gandhi to host the launch of Britain’s Biggest Curry Party, ahead of the event which will take place in October.


The launch took place at Mehek’s restaurant at London Wall and was attended by an array of celebrities and media, including BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing’s Camilla Dallerup and Bollywood actress, Shaana Diya. There was also a complimentary lunch, cour- tesy of Mehek’s, and a performance from Bollywood dancers.


James Whale himself was joined by food nutritionist, Kumud Gandhi, founder of the Cooking Academy and catering company, Saffron House. Kumud specializes in healthy, Asian- infused cuisine which offers a healthy take on traditional Indian food. Kumud said: “This is a wonderful initiative to raise money for a fantastic cause.. Curry and other Indian cuisine should continue to be embraced and what better way to showcase this than through a curry party!”
