No result for ‘best curry’ contents

The ‘best curry’ contest at this year’s Brick Lane Curry Festival had to be declared void. It is reported that one of the five restaurants who made it through to the final did not have enough staff to compete, so the organisers decided not to name a winner at the event, which was held at the Vibe Bar.

The rest of the 10th annual Brick Lane Curry Festival went ahead as planned, however, and the short-listed restau- rants gave free food samples to pro- mote business during the Best of Brick Lane event. Other awards were pre- sented at the special evening at Vibe,

held on Bank Holiday Monday at the end of May. These included: Masala Restaurant for best presentation; Brick Lane Brasserie House of Spice for best service; Mango Restaurant for best interior decor; Muhib Indian Cuisine for best Cobra served, and the Clifton Tandoori for best value.

The ‘mother’ of restaurants comes to Wilmslow

The latest addition to the Wilmslow restaurant scene is Cafe Amma - mother in Bengali - which is the brain- child of owner, Mohi Rahmen, whose family have for many years run a food wholesale business serving Indian res- taurants across the UK. DV8 Designs, a Cheshire-based architectural and interior design company, has fashioned a striking interior which is said to be ‘unlike any other Indian restaurant or café in the area.’

Lunch time offerings include a selec- tion of snack size portions of Indian food along with salads and wraps and

the restaurant serves a selection of teas and coffees, as well as iced fra- puccinos. Furthermore Cafe Amma has also secured a Haagen-Dazs ice cream franchise.

In the evening Café Amma serves serve dinner in white booths at the back of the restaurant, showcasing Bengali cuisine. Currently an unlicensed venue, Cafe Amma allows diners to bring their own wine, lager and champagne, which staff are happy to chill and pro- vide glassware.
