VCU TENNIS It doesn’t matter what time of day or what day of the week it is,
the office light of Head Coach Paul Kostin will always be on. Known as one of the hardest working coaches in the country, Kostin’s dedication to his program has paid big dividends, posting nearly 900 wins over nearly 30 years of Division I coaching experience.
His biggest success has come with the VCU men’s tennis pro-
gram, which he has been overseeing for the past 20 seasons. 17 of those years he led the Rams to a top-25 ranking, 17 of those years he led the Rams to the NCAA Tournament and 12 of those he led the Rams to CAA Championships. Needless to say he knows how to win.
The success of the Black & Gold have not been limited to the
court, earning academic accolades throughout Kostin’s 20-year stint as head coach. Success stories like Boris Kodjoe, who spent four years with the Rams and is now a star in Hollywood on both TV and in the movies are not uncommon.
2010 was a different year for the legendary coach with a very
inexperienced roster, but once again Kostin was able to guide VCU to another CAA title and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Throughout the year, the Rams got a taste of what it took to be the best with 15 of their 25 opponents being ranked by the ITA, including nine in the top- 25.
