Online Maps and Interactive GIS Data Available

submitted by Elizabeth Wood, Community Planner, Windham Want a custom map of your property? Interested in finding out how close you live to Town trails or conservation lands? Try visiting the GIS Web page on the Town Website! The Geographic Information Systems

(GIS) Web page on the town Website provides free access to an interactive map that can be used to show specific data. The base map contains parcel data and roads, and more map features can be added,

including zoning, locations of conservation land, wetlands, approximate flood plain, and elevation. You can view an area at different scales and you can crop the map to display only the portions of the town that you are interested in. You can also print the customized map that is created. Want to know when your house was built

or who owns the property next door? The interactive GIS may be a good place to start. The program contains information about individual lots, such as the property owners, zoning, and property history, including

when the structures on the property were built and when the property was last sold. Access the interactive GIS and online maps at the following link: www. windhamnewhampshire.com/GIS. The Community Development Department and IT/GIS Director are working to provide as much information as possible online. However, if your mapping or data needs are not being met by our online services, feel free to stop by or call us at 432-3806, and Community Development Staff would be happy to help you.

Bettencourt Seeks Re-Election

Running for public office is an incredibly personal decision that should never be taken lightly.

I D. J. Bettencourt

deeply believe that one should never run just to hold a title or office, but rather service must always be about effective governance and

advocating policies that improve the lives of Granite Staters.

After careful consideration, I have decided to seek re-election to the New Hampshire House of Representatives and hope to continue having the honor and responsibility to represent the citizens of Salem and Windham. My decision

emanates from the conviction that work remains to be done and that the challenges facing us require bold, innovative, and independent conservative leadership if we are to preserve the New Hampshire Advantage for future generations. New Hampshire presently faces an historic budget deficit, which combined with an onslaught of tax and fee increases has resulted in substantial hardships on families, caused businesses to struggle, and has forced many to flee New Hampshire. Making matters worse, the downshifting of state services to local communities could cause property taxes to increase beyond already extraordinary levels. It is imperative that state government live within its means by finding solutions that are wide-reaching and lasting. We must create a sustainable budget that roots out government inefficiencies and waste and forsakes a ruinous income or sales tax.

When first elected, I pledged that I would

be a Representative that legislated upon the ideals of smaller government, free markets, and local control that provides those closest to the issues the ability to solve them. I also promised that I would bring energy and fresh ideas to Concord. I remain that same person today and my record stands as evidence.

Additionally, I want to continue making progress on comprehensive reforms spanning across state government that I have worked for since I entered public life, including education, public safety, healthcare, environment and energy, transportation, and economic development. With that in mind, it is essential that we always remember it is the people who control the government and not the other way around. It is my sincere hope that my record of accomplishment and fidelity to my beliefs and commitments has earned your trust and support during these challenging times.

John Sytek Announces Candidacy for State Representative John Sytek

John Sytek of Salem is a candidate for the Republican nomination for State Representative for Salem and Windham. Sytek served three terms in the New Hampshire House in the ‘90s and recently retired after teaching Latin at Salem High School for the past 15 years. Prior to that, he owned a small business and worked as an engineer. He is currently the Salem town treasurer and is active in Salem Dollars for Scholars. “I recognize that the state spending levels of the past few years cannot be sustained and need to be reined in. Having previously served in the House, though, I harbor no illusions that I have all the answers to the state’s problems. I intend to listen

carefully, work diligently, and vote conservatively,” he stated.

During his time as state representative, Sytek was named a trustee of the NH Retirement System and was honored by the Society of Professional Engineers for his legislative work. He was the architect of the legislative compromise that established Civil Rights Day, which was subsequently named Martin Luther King Day.

A Salem resident for 40 years, Sytek is a graduate

of St. Joseph’s University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is married to former House Speaker Donna Sytek.

Two Men Posing as Salesmen Arrested for Attempted Burglary

Corey Frost

submitted by Pelham Police Department On July 29 at approximately 10:16 a.m., the Pelham Police Department received a report that two men were at a residence on Mammoth Road offering to supply the homeowner

with a quote to build a patio. The homeowner became suspicious of the men and reported this to the police department, supplying a description of the individuals as well as the vehicle they were driving.

Officers responded to the area and began searching for the vehicle and the two men. Approximately 30 minutes after receiving the call, officers canvassing the area were able to locate the vehicle and the two individuals.

Officers were able to determine that these individuals were not affiliated with any company and that they were using the sales pitch as a ploy when encountering homeowners. Both individuals were arrested and have been charged with the following offenses: Corey Frost, 20, Burlington, MA, Criminal Liability of Another, Accomplice to Attempted Burglary

Agop Jack Anajarian

(Felony), Possession of Drugs - Soxboxone (Felony), Transporting Drugs—Soxboxone (Misdemeanor), Possession of Burglary Tools (Misdemeanor); and Agop Jack Anajarian, 24, Billerica, MA, Attempt to Commit Burglary (Felony), and Possession of Burglary Tools (Misdemeanor). Both individuals were held on $10,000 cash bail and were scheduled for arraignment before Salem District Court on July 30.

Homeowners are reminded to lock their doors when they leave and to call the police if they encounter anything that they feel is suspicious in nature.

It is needed to enhance NOAA’s ability to produce timely and accurate estimates of the catch and harvest of saltwater fish by recreational anglers. There are a few exceptions to the registration requirement. New Hampshire anglers and spearfishers will not need to register if they are under 16 years old; only fish on licensed charter, party, or guide boats; hold a Highly Migratory Species Angling permit; or hold and are fishing under a valid commercial license. Out-of-state saltwater anglers who are already registered with NOAA do not need to re-register to fish in New Hampshire.
