The Word Around Town... Letters to our Editor
Host Families Still Needed for Hockey Players
Each season, the Cyclones Hockey Club recruits talented junior hockey players from across the country, Canada, and Europe. These players show great potential to play at the college level and beyond, but do not live within a reasonable driving distance of the arena. To take advantage of this great opportunity, the players need families willing to share their homes and become a “home away from home” for them. We are currently looking for host families in Windham, Salem, Pelham, Londonderry, Derry, Litchfield, and Hudson. These boys, ranging in ages from 16 to 20, have been able to complete their high school educations, take classes in local colleges, or hold part-time jobs while pursuing their hockey opportunities and dreams. In most cases, very strong bonds are made between the player and his billet family, as well as with the player’s family. Our players have proven to be great role models for younger children in the billet family, as they demonstrate hard work and determination to achieve tough goals. The player needs a bed, bureau, closet space, and a desk or table and chair. Families receive a monthly billeting stipend
for each player. Some have found it easier to house two players, as they then travel together and are company for each other. Host families have included traditional two-parent families, single-parent families, and “empty-nesters,” too. All that’s really needed is a willingness to help a player pursue his dream by providing a good home. If you are interested in the possibility of being a host, please call Denise Dolloff at 475-1289. Your willingness to share your home and family is all it takes, and you will truly make a difference in a player’s life.

Supporting Terry Dakin for Hillsborough County Commissioner
As a life-long resident of Nashua and a current City of Nashua Board of Public Works Commissioner, I support Terry Dakin in the Republican primary for the position of Hillsborough County Commissioner (District 2 includes Nashua, Hudson, Hollis, and Pelham).
We need someone like Terry who understands budgets and would serve as a watchdog for the Hillsborough County taxpayer. Terry has the experience in creating, implementing, and managing multi-million dollar budgets. Terry Dakin is my choice in the Republican primary for Hillsborough County Commissioner on September 14.

Support for Terry Dakin for Hillsborough County Commissioner
I am a resident of Hollis and a small business
owner. I am very concerned that Hillsborough County government is out of control with continued increases in county employee salaries and budget while decreasing services. I am supporting Terry Dakin in the Republican Primary for Hillsborough County Commissioner, District 2 (Hollis, Nashua, Hudson, and Pelham) scheduled for September 14. Terry worked in the private sector as a manager and knows budgets and personnel. Terry will watch our tax dollars. Please join me in voting for Terry

Tom Lavoie - Hollis Lack of Water Use Restrictions
I am very disappointed that the Salem selectmen have delayed asking residents to voluntarily restrict their water use. Their only source of water in the summer is Canobie Lake. The level of Canobie Lake was 217.3 feet above sea level on August 1. According to the town, it’s been 10 years since the level was that low. There’s a message in that.
If the drought continues and the water use does not decrease, the level could decline to the point where mandatory restrictions are required. What will the town say then? We could have avoided this if we’d started voluntary restrictions in July.
It
will be too late then. I would encourage Salem residents to restrict their outside watering, even without encouragement from their leaders.
