Calling All Children and Parents! Here Comes the Zach Attack Fun Run 5K!

submitted by Necole Tompkins The Zachary M. Tompkins Memorial Fun Run 5K is approaching quickly! In just a few short weeks away, I would love to see all of you football players, cheerleaders, soccer players, baseball players, and any other sport I may not have mentioned to get out there and run ... or walk. You could be running with the Banzai Bandits! That’s right – you heard me – the Banzai Bandits will be riding soon in Hudson! Who are the Banzai Bandits, you ask? They are mild-mannered locals by day, but when the call goes out for help, they are quick to be there when needed! You might recognize some of them: Lee Lavoie and Laura Bisson, Hudson School Board members; Jeremy Griffus, Hudson Recreation Committee Chairman; Keith Bowen, Assistant Principal, Hudson Memorial School; Scott Baker, Principal, Dr. H.O. Smith/Library Street Schools; Paul Balukonis, former D.A.R.E. Officer; Karen Bonnie, Athletic Director, Alvirne High School; Amy Blackwell, kindergarten

teacher, Nottingham West; Eric Crivac, fifth-grade teacher, Dr. H.O. Smith School; Joe Hoebeke, Hudson Police Department; Kevin Desaulnier, teacher, Presentation of Mary Academy; and a representative from the Hudson Fire Department who will be named later. Indeed, the cry has gone out for help. When Zach Attack announced the upcoming 5K Fun Run to benefit the building of the Zach Tompkins Memorial Field, Selectman Roger Coutu challenged another group to raise $10,000 (he’s hoping to raise the same), so the Banzai Bandits answered the call with their traditional battle cry, “Live Large and Take Charge!” If you want to help the Banzai

Bandits reach and beat that goal, feel free to call one of the local members personally to pledge your help. Or you can go to www. zacharytompkins.org if you can’t find your preferred Bandit.

In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled and

watch for these Bandits. You never know when they may strike again … or where, for that matter.

NH Triggers Off Federal-State Extended Benefits Program

submitted by NH Employment Security The last payable week for New Hampshire

Federal-State Extended Benefits (EB) is the week ending August 14. The EB Program provided an additional 13 weeks of benefits to those individuals who exhausted their regular state Unemployment Insurance benefits and Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits. The U.S. Department of Labor’s guidelines

allow states to trigger onto Extended Benefits when their three-month moving average seasonally adjusted unemployment rate exceeds 6.5 percent. New Hampshire triggered onto Extended Benefits on August 2, 2009. New Hampshire’s June 2010 unemployment rate of 5.9 percent brought the state’s three-month average below 6.5 percent, causing the state to trigger off the EB program. Emergency Unemployment Compensation

n

(EUC) benefits are still available for claimants who are eligible. The new legislation that was recently passed did not add more weeks of benefits; it extended the eligibility deadline. The total number of weeks of EUC benefits available in New Hampshire at the present time is 47. There are three tiers of benefits involved: Tier 1 for 20 weeks, Tier 2 for 14 weeks, and Tier 3 for 13 weeks. The New Hampshire unemployment rate is not high enough to make Tier 4, an additional 13 weeks, available. For more information on Extended Benefits, visit our Website at www.nhes.nh.gov or call 1-800-266-2253.

be at Alvirne High School on Saturday, August 21, from 9 a.m. to noon ready to “Live Large and Take Charge”… of washing your car or truck! Mr. Roger Coutu challenged any other team or individual to try and meet his goal of raising $10,000 for the Zach Tompkins Memorial Fund
