T ere they will visit the diamond capitol of the world and see fi rst-hand the cutting, polishing, and sorting of the fi nest dia- monds. T ey will also be able to hand pick diamonds to bring back to Heartland Gold in Wauchula. T ey hope to make this an annual trip.

“Getting new cases is the easy part. It’s fi lling them up that’s the hard part,” Wesley laughs.


One of the things Heartland Gold is remembered for is its four legged friend Shelby. She has been coming to the store with Wesley everyday for the past ten years. Born on Christmas Eve, she became a favorite in the community when she was only eight weeks old.


“Kids would always pet Shelby and love on her when their par- ents were shopping. T at was over ten years ago. Now, those same kids are in high school and still stop by to see Shelby,” Wesley says.

Along with operating Heartland Gold, Wesley loves spending time with his family. T e girl that he began dating when he was nineteen, Leslie Mercer, became his wife over ten years ago. To- gether, they have three children; Aiden, Evan, and Owen.


As is evident, Heartland Gold is an establishment that has had a great impact in the lives of those in Hardee County, as well as surrounding areas. Wesley Roe, along with the staff at Heartland Gold, attribute the success of their business to a genuinely sup- portive community.
