Almont Cougars at Almont Softball Tournament 14 and Under Division August 7

Tournament recap- The Almont Cougars ran into some stiff competition, wind- ing up 0-4 at the Almont Softball Tournament last Saturday.


The team began tourna- ment play Saturday with a 9-7 loss to Falcons. That was followed by a 10-7 setback to Cobras; a 17-2 loss to Utica Crush; and a


7-5 setback to Elba.


Ann Marie Mailloux (three singles and a homer), Brianna Horton (three sin- gles and a double) and Kayla Brecht (four singles) proved the top offensive threats for the Almont Cougars.

Volanta (three singles), Cassie Malhado and Jaylyn Fields (a triple each) along with Samantha Closurdo, Brianna Price, Mikaela Parski and Jenna Dominek (a single each) also reached the hitting column.


Local Young Guns 12U team wraps up season By Kevin Kissane Tri-City Times Sports Editor


TRI-CITY AREA — The Michigan Young Guns wound up with a 3-1 mark, paving the way to a third among 12 and Under Division entries July 30-August 1 at the Capac Tournament. The squad got their tour- nament run underway Friday, July 30 with a 7-1 win against the Romeo Bulldogs.


The following day saw the Michigan Young Guns post a 1-1 mark. That includ- ed a 15-4 victory over the Washington Nationals and a 10-4 loss to Blue Water Attack.


The Michigan Young Guns then squared off versus the Romeo Bulldogs on Sunday, August 1 for third place honors.


When the contest drew to a close, the Michigan Young Guns had prevailed via a 7-6 scoreboard count. The Michigan Young Guns wrapped up their 2010 campaign as owners of a 37- 13 overall mark. That includ- ed a 13-1 tournament mark.

IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City Sparks tryout dates for the 2011 season are as follows:


18U tournament team- August 21-22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the junior varsity field.


16U tournament team- August 16-17 from 6-8 p.m. at the varsity field.


14U tournament and league team- August 18-19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the varsi- ty field.


12U tournament and league team- August 16-17 from 6-8 p.m. at the junior varsity field.


Area 11U squad goes 2-2 at the Capac Tourney

TRI-CITY AREA — The Michigan Young Guns went 2-2 versus 11 and Under Division entries July 31- August 1 at the Capac Tournament.


The team began tourna- ment play on Saturday, July 31 with an 11-10 triumph against Shelby East Side Eagles.


Later that day, the Michigan Young Guns watched their record drop to 1-1 with a 8-4 setback to Grosse Pointe Blue Crush. The following day saw the Michigan Young Guns wind up 1-1 as well. There the squad started things off with a 9-6 win against Davison, before falling 8-7 to Line Drive Pirates. Brendan Ecker, Zach Revoldt, Joey Gildner, Hayden Wolf, Carson Kempa, Daniel Dedlaune, Drew Revoldt, Nathan Thomas, Zachary Vanwormer, Zeno Vettese, Dakota Dufort comprised the Michigan Young Guns roster. The team is coached by Tim Dufort, Jason Revoldt, Matt Vanwormer and Karl Wolf.
