The next Chapter in the football club’s passage is about to commence with the step up to the Ryman League Division 1 North with our first game being at home to Thamesmead Town on Saturday 21st August. The pitch looks immaculate and the Tuesday working party’s efforts have really put a shine over the whole ground, and our new club flag was hoisted by our lady Vice President, Jenny Nunn, before the game against Kirkley last Saturday.
Pre-Season so far
Yes the season has started, OK it may only be friendlies but it does give supporters a chance to see some of the new signings in action and in my case a chance to see po- tential opposition for the league season ahead.
Our first game was on Tuesday 20th July against beaten Vase final- ists Wroxham, which ended one a piece. It was a good solid workout with Danny taking the chance to play everyone for at least 45 min- utes. One major concern was that Sam Newson pulled out a few min- utes before half-time with ham- string problem, he assured every- one that it was only a “tweak”. He was however not playing in the second game against Kings Lynn as a precaution. Again this was a very competitive game and by the end a few players were feeling the pace and a few knocks. Kings Lynn were captained by big Jack Defty and it is fair to say that our central de- fenders have still not worked out how to play him. Nathan Stone
Scored his first goals for the club and may have had a third but our per- formance in the second half meant that we left Norfolk on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline.
Our first home game played on Satur- day 31st July on a beautiful surface was against Kirkley & Pakefield and ended with a superb 7-1 win. It may sound one-sided but Kirkley should have scored immediately prior to our first goal. Then on Tuesday 3rd Au- gust NMFC were the first visitors to use the new pitch and facilities at the Haverhill Community Sports Arena. This facility built at a cost of £2.5m had been due to see other games prior to ours but the pitch was not deemed up to scratch until our visit. This was a comfortable 2-0 win and a good work out for the squad.
Saturday saw Needham win a tough fixture at Soham 2-0 with some ex- cellent football. The final friendly is at home to AFC Stamford this coming Saturday, let’s hope that is another win.
