The unique Middle Eastern oasis
Burj Al Arab, Dubai
There is no other place on earth where ancient culture rubs shoulders so brazenly with the twenty fi rst century. To visit Dubai either before or after your Fred. Olsen cruise is like opening a window on the trading metropolis of old Alexandria, or New York when Manhattan was still reaching for the sky. Such is the vibrant nature of this singular city-state.
One of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates and located on the south of the Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula, Dubai more than lives up to its hype as a truly global city. This is home to some of the world’s tallest and most iconic buildings, like the Burj Al Arab Hotel and the aptly named Dynamic Tower, plus amazing development projects like the Palm Islands and the World Islands. Not to mention the third largest indoor snow park. So there’s a lot to take in!
All the more reason to savour the luxurious base for your illuminating 3-night stay, Le Royal Meridian Beach Resort and Spa. A world of indulgence overlooking the clear blue waters of the Arabian Gulf. Just the right platform to launch you into this city of contrasts. A half-day tour taking in famous mosques, palaces, opulent modern shopping malls and traditional souks for gold and spices is followed by a safari through the nearby dunes dotted with date palms and desert hyacinths, culminating with a romantic dinner under the stars.
And there’s still time to enjoy a trip across the Creek on a classic sailing Dhow. A fitting trailer or curtain call to an altogether different kind of cruising experience.
