Visitors to this year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo Hamburg had the opportunity to experience some of LSG Sky Chefs’ highlights
Presenting their many competencies beyond airline catering, the event yet again proved to be the right platform to reach their target audience. Many visitors, including major airline decision makers, took great interest in the product displays, which included some of LSG Sky Chefs’ award-winning equipment. LSG Sky Chefs was able to add to its growing list of internationally recognised awards at event - the Quantum lightweight trolley, jointly developed with Norduyn, was awarded with a Crystal Cabin Award. The trolleys were on display, and visitors had the opportunity to calculate the possible savings their airlines could achieve by introducing the Quantum trolley, using an online simulator. Staying with the green theme, the environmentally friendly sugarcane tray set, winner of the ‘Stars of Observeur’ design award, was also on display, as well as a new red dot award. The red dot honourable mention was awarded for the Lufthansa starter box. Other highlights included entertaining packaging concepts, with an eye-catching monster box and a topical world cup box. New partners Formia were also present, bringing expanded capabilities in the area of in-flight amenities. And further examples of product engineering were featured, with the newly designed lightweight plastic cups and cutlery, which are 35 per cent and 10 per cent lighter than equivalent products respectively. LSG Sky Chefs looks forward to following up on the fruitful meetings with customers and interesting discussions on future developments and co-creation ideas.
LSG Sky Chefs’ Recent Design Awards Quantum, the new thermal lightweight trolley jointly developed by LSG Sky Chefs and Norduyn, was selected as the most innovative aircraft cabin
product for the Crystal Cabin Award in the Greener Cabin, Health and Safety category. It was recognised for being significantly lighter in weight compared to traditional aluminium frame trolleys, which greatly reduces fuel-burn and therefore carbon emissions. The Quantum trolley recently received airworthiness certification, allowing it to be used onboard by airlines worldwide.
The starter box, designed as part of the Lufthansa Special Moments Program, was
presented with an honourable mention by red dot in 2010. The box comprises of a rotable outer box with a disposable insert. The inserts can be designed individually by
chefs to allow them flexibility in presenting their menus.
In 2009 LSG Sky Chefs was awarded with
the Best of the Best red dot award for the ‘Leaves’ Economy Class tray set for Lufthansa.
The ‘Leaves’ tray set also received the Good Design award from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
LSG Sky Chefs’ range of sugarcane products was awarded with the highest ranking award
Observeur du Design award. The products are made of environmentally friendly sugarcane material, an annually renewable resource, which is fully biodegradable and meets all the requirements of airline catering. Brazilian flag carrier TAM Airlines has been using this equipment onboard since April. They were also awarded with an Observeur du Design Award for the colourful Corsairfly Economy Class tray set. The equipment is designed to give passengers a holiday feeling as soon as they step onto the plane.
LSG Sky Chefs’ Recent Process Awards The International Quality and Productivity Center (IQPC)
awarded LSG Sky Chefs with the Process Excellence Awards for Best Green Improvement Project for the successful global implementation of a dishwashing process optimisation programme. Monitoring through a central computer system (SIMBA) has enabled significant savings in energy and water consumption. Their Lean Enterprise programme also received an
