Systematically ensuring quality

TÜV Rheinland unveiled a range of services designed specifically for the aviation industry at Aircraft Interiors Expo Hamburg 2010. Alongside development support services, static and dynamic tests for interior components were also highlighted.

A team of expert aviation engineers carries

out research and development projects, whilst supporting companies in the development and construction of aviation components. This includes, for example, aircraft crash safety, passenger protection and modern restraint systems of seating constructions. The joint venture TÜV Rheinland TNO Automotive International (TTAI) also enables

Radiall expands

multipin connector line Radiall USA, Inc. has expanded its multipin connector product line with the QM Interconnect solution. QM connectors offer outstanding performance due to their innovative slide lock mechanism and have the environmental and mechanical characteristics that provide for long lasting durability needed for the most severe aerospace applications. With the ability to install the connectors to a track and mate without tools, QM connectors utilise Radiall’s EPXB®

standard inserts to offer excellent integration flexibility. Originally developed to support Boeing

787 wire integration requirements for final assembly, the QM connector has spread to numerous applications throughout the B787 aircraft and is now used on both B777 and B747-8 platforms as well. The QM connector is considered an “enabling technology” within the Boeing Company which makes the three day plan for the B787 final assembly feasible. A licensing agreement is now in place between the Boeing Company and Radiall to allow the QM connector to be sold to all customers worldwide.

Compact care

Percival Aviation introduced its new on-board aircraft wheelchair, SkyPAL mk2, at Aircraft Interiors Expo Hamburg 2010.

In light of the new ECAC Code of Good Conduct – EU Regulation (EC) No: 1107/2006, implemented on July 26th 2008, Percival Aviation has designed and manufactured SkyPAL. SkyPAL is small enough for use as an aisle chair, travel as cabin baggage or be stowed. The wheelchair complies with the (UK) DPTAC On-board Wheelchair specification and the (US) DoT 14 CRF Part 382. It will be supplied with an EASA form 1 and full CMM. Percival Aviation specialise in the design and manufacture of

aircraft seat covers and foams, and can supply individual or ship set requirements at very competitive prices and lead time in a range of leather, fabric and sheepskin. Other products include Passenger Restraint Kits, fire retardant bags, stowage bags and valises.

Going green

Franklin Products has introduced a global recycling programme which allows airlines to return their cushions for conversion into alternative cushioning products and electricity. Franklin Products has also made substantial investments in green technologies including installing a photovoltaic solar array electricity generator at their Texas facility. At the show, Franklin Products

presented its Soft-Touch Comfort Foam, which is designed to improve weight distribution and reduce pressure points leading to improved comfort. Soft-Touch Comfort Foam is formulated to have a very soft feel, but with the chemistry of higher density polymers for long-lasting durability. Franklin Products’ new Style-Pro Laminated Dress Covers which offer automotive-like upholstery solutions were also presented.

type approval tests, COP testing, aviation safety tests, maritime safety tests, railway safety tests, road furniture tests and full scale facility tests in all disciplines.

Further emphasis at the show was also given

to current certification developments in accordance with EN/AS 9100ff. With neutral certification in accordance with EN/AS 9100ff, companies within the branch can document their quality management systems. This contributes to consolidating their competitiveness in the long term. By being entered in the international OASIS database of the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG), companies achieve a basis for supplying customers all over the world.
