Saturday, August 7 A Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection will be held at the Nashua Public Works Garage, 6 Riverside Street, Nashua, from 8 a.m. to noon for residents of Amherst, Brookline, Hollis, Hudson, Litchfield, Merrimack, Milford, Mont Vernon, Nashua, Pelham, and Windham. There is a small user fee per vehicle, with additional charges for electronics recycling. Sunday, August 8 The Windham Concert Band, under the leadership of Music Director Jared Cassedy and Assistant Director Becky Gagnon, will present a free concert from 6-8 p.m. at the Windham Common, which is located behind the Windham Senior Center across from the Windham Presbyterian Church at the corner of North Lowell Road and Church Road in Windham. The public is cordially invited to bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the music. In case of rain, the concert will be rescheduled.


Tuesday, August 10 The Windham Republican Town Committee is hosting a Republican Candidate’s Night for State and County offices at 7 p.m. at Windham Town Hall.


Friday and Saturday, August 20 and 21 Pelham Community Theatre and Arts Penguin Players children’s group presents The Little Mermaid on Friday, August 20, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, August 21, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Sherburne Hall, Village Green, Pelham. Saturday, August 21 The John H. Hargreaves Memorial VFW Post #10722 will be holding a Ham and Bean fundraising supper with continuous seating from 4:45-7:30 p.m. They will serve ham, home-style beans, potato salad, dessert, coffee, and soft drinks. There is a cost for the tickets, with a discounted rate for children. They will also be holding numerous raffles, and free baby-sitting will be provided. The proceeds from this event will be in support of a Pelham Veteran’s Memorial Wall, which is being presented to the Pelham community as a Girl Scout “Gold Award” project by Abby Blais of Pelham. This perpetual Veteran’s Memorial Wall will be established within the VFW Post and will recognize all of the Pelham veterans that gave their ultimate sacrifice during enemy conflict or battle. The formal dedication will be held the weekend following Veteran’s Day on Sunday, November 14.


Tuesday, August 24 Chunky’s Cinema Pub and Pelham Relief Association presents a Movie Night, to be held at the Village Green. Bring your chairs or blankets and come enjoy the feature presentation, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, beginning at dusk. The event will start at 4 p.m. with an antique car show, a moonwalk bounce house, a rock climbing wall, a bike helmet and T-shirt giveaway, a bike raffle, hot dogs, beverages, and live entertainment. The movie is free and open to the public.


Saturday, September 18 Mark your calendars! The 104th annual Pelham Old Home Day will be held on September 18 at the First Congregational Church, with all kinds of fun and activities for the whole family to enjoy. The day will begin with a 5K Road Race starting in front of the Pelham Public Library. There will also be a craft/vendor fair, an auction, a doll carriage and bike parade, a pretty pie contest, kids’ games, entertainment and demonstrations, a food tent, and much more. Library


Now through the end of August August is food for fines month at the Pelham Public Library. Donate a non-perishable item and we will forgive your overdue fines. All food will go to the Pelham Food Pantry. Items that are most needed are canned meat, tuna, canned fruit, cold cereal, condiments, paper towels and toilet tissue, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, laundry, and dishwashing detergent.


Tuesday, August 10 The Friends of the Library of Windham (FLOW) invite you to enjoy a performance of Alice in Wonderland at 1 p.m. at the Windham High School Auditorium. The program will be performed by the Hampstead Stage Company, and all ages are welcome. Registration for this event is requested, but not required. For additional information or to register, call the Library at 432-7154 and ask for Jane McCue or Karen Frey. Following the performance, there will be a reception at the Nesmith Library to meet the actors.


Wednesday, August 11 Ronald’s “Dive into Discovery” Show plunges into the depths of the Pelham Library to find the treasures that it holds at 11:30 a.m. This 30-minute show is filled with adventure, magic, discovery, audience participation, and reading fun. Registration for the fun summer program continues throughout the summer—all are welcome!


Thursday, August 12 Our final big whoop-de-do for the Summer Reading Program will be held at 6:30 p.m. Toes will be tapping and fingers will be snapping as the Toe Jam Puppet band comes to the library for a lively, interactive program. Grab your family, a blanket and your bug spray, and join us on the side lawn of the library for this rockin’ good time! If the weather does not cooperate, we will be in the Molly Hobbs Room inside at the library.


Tuesday, August 17 The Nesmith Library will hold an Adult “Learning Spanish” Group, starting on August 17 at 6 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet and share learning and practicing Spanish. All levels welcome. Goals of the first meeting will be to select goals of the club and best time, days and frequency to meet.

Wednesday, August 18 The Nesmith Library celebrates a summer of reading featuring Lon Cerel and his “Magic Palooza Family Fun Show” at 6 p.m. His program has been highlighted as the “The perfect family entertainment for ages 4 to 104.” Lon Cerel is described as a keen combination of performer, comedian, and magician—the total entertainer. No registration is required for the end-of-the- summer reading program party. Even if you did not participate in the Summer Reading Program, you are still welcome to attend this event. This program is scheduled to be held outside on the library grounds, but will be moved inside in the event of inclement weather. Grand prize summer reading program drawings will be held for the reading raffles, including tickets to Canobie Lake Park, Clark’s Trading Post, Story Land, and Water Country! Ice cream sundaes will also be served following the performance. Special thanks to the Friends of the Library of Windham, for sponsoring this event.


Fridays through the Summer The Pelham Public Library will hold Computer 101 classes every Friday during the summer from 1-2 p.m. Call the library or drop by to register. This class is a basic introduction to using a computer. Topics discussed will include how to navigate the Internet, set up e-mail, and the basics of Microsoft Word.

Monday, August 9 The Windham School District will hold a Facilities Master Planning Committee meeting at the SAU office at 5 p.m. This initial meeting is to begin discussion about how to meet the needs of growing population with the status of current facilities.


Tuesday, August 10 The Windham School Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Goals and objectives for both Windham Middle School and Windham High School will be presented by new Assistant Superintendent, Ms. Amanda Lecaroz, as WHS prepares for the addition of the junior class.

Wednesday, August 25 The Pelham High School Guidance Department will hold Orientation for parents and students of the Class of 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. If you have any questions, contact us at the PHS Guidance and Career Center at 635-2116.


Sports & Recreation


Starting Now Windham Recreation will sponsor the Extreme Fitness Boot Camp, a full-body conditioning class offered three days a week, designed to challenge and improve every component of fitness. Burn a ton of calories, shed pounds, and improve your performance for summer sports by participating in the best fitness boot camp in Southern New Hampshire. These fast-paced, 60-minute, high-energy classes are guaranteed to improve your agility, power, speed, strength, and endurance. Summer sessions are offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6-7 a.m., and 7:15-8:15 a.m. at Griffin Park. Afternoon sessions will be offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Windham High School. Starting Now New Hampshire Flag Football League’s fall season registration is open. NHFFL is an NFL youth football league that offers flag football for boys and girls ages 5-15. For information on the league and to register your player, go to www.NHFFL.com.


Now through Wednesday, August 25 Pelham Parks and Recreation is currently taking registrations for theWorld Cup Fall Soccer 2010 league. This youth soccer program begins in September. All games are played on Saturdays (weather permitting) at Muldoon Park. Registration is open to boys/ girls, ages 5-14. Practices are mid-week, with games on Saturdays. New full uniforms (shirt and socks, no shorts) to be included. Coaches are needed! Please fill out a coach application with our office if you’re able to volunteer. Registration forms will be available online, at the 6 Village Green town hall office, and at https://webtrac. pelhamweb.com. Deadline for sign-up is August 25, with a late fee charged after the deadline. Division 3 tryouts and draft will be held on August 30, and Division 4 will be held on August 31. You must check the Website to get a time for your child—no coach for Divisions 3 and 4 will call until after the tryouts to let you know what team your child is on. Everyone makes a team. No tryouts for Divisions 1 and 2. Practices should start the week of September 6. See www.pelhamweb.com/recreation for more new details and changes on this program.


Now through Friday, August 27 Pelham Parks And Recreation is currently holding registration for the 2010 Fall Tot Soccer program, which is open to boys and girls ages 3 and 4 (age 3 by September 1). Practices will be held on Wednesdays, September 8 – October 13 at 5:30 p.m., and games will be on Sundays, September 12 – October 17 at 9 a.m. No experience needed! Bring shin guards. The deadline to register is August 27, and a late fee will be charged after that if space allows. Registration forms are at our office, or register online at www.pelhamweb.com/recreation. Forms may be mailed to 6 Village Green. There is a fee to register. Parent coaches are needed! Sign-ups are for residents and non- residents. Monday – Friday, August 16 – 20 Pelham Parks and Recreation has application forms available for the Elite UK Soccer camp at Muldoon Park in Pelham, the week of August 16, for children ages 3 to 18. There are options for a partial or full day and the price differs accordingly. There are discounts for more than one child in a family. Each player receives a free Elite UK Soccer t- shirt at camp. This is an instructional clinic for players of all abilities in a very fun environment. Camp runs rain or shine. Open to residents and non-residents.
