Hudson - Litchfield News August 6, 2010 - 5

The Hudson Police Department has confirmed that there has been an increase of burglaries throughout Hudson during the first six months of this year versus last year. In addition, the Hudson Police Department is asking for the public help to be “vigilant” as to what is happening in

their neighborhoods. Statistics for 2010

show that Hudson has had 48 burglaries and an additional seven attempts between January and July, whereas during last year in its entirety, Hudson had 48 burglaries and 13 attempts. In short, burglaries have

According to the police, the burglars are not of a specific age, gender, or ethnicity. “Everyone is suspect,” said Chief Lavoie. The Hudson Police Department will be displaying the recovered items on YouTube, the Hudson Website, and on Hudson Cable Television in hopes that those who have been subjected to a burglary can identify their items

doubled during 2010 versus 2009. “Most of the burglaries are residential,” commented Hudson Police Chief Jason Lavoie. “They are stealing anything they can carry. Guns, jewelry, electronics, money, coin collections, and video game consoles are the more typical, but this list is only the tip.” “We have made four arrests of suspects that we allege are responsible for one or more burglaries in Hudson,” continued Chief Lavoie. “We are actively following up on leads and hope to make

more arrests with those involved. Hopefully, the residents of Hudson who have been burglarized will look on our Website or inquire with the HPD so that we can show them the pictures of the stolen goods we have recovered.” Statistically speaking, the solving of a burglary “is the most difficult crime to solve of all the serious crimes,” claims Chief Lavoie. “While we believe that we have solved 20 percent of this year’s burglaries, we expect that we will be solving more cases. We also realize the frustration to the homeowners to those crimes which are still under investigation and we remain committed to solving these crimes. The 20 percent is no consolation to the residents who burglaries we don’t solve. I feel bad, I wish we could solve them

Harvesting of Ottarnic Pond a Success

by Doug Robinson The harvesting of Ottarnic Pond went “better than expected,” claims Bob Patterson of AB Aquatics in Atkinson, saying that the residents of Ottarnic Pond did a great job in identifying the location of the weeds, and as a result of their great work, they were able to cut down dive time from an estimated nine days to only five days. Hooked to a breathing apparatus, Cornell student and

pole-vaulting athlete Lindsey Patterson, employee of AB Aquatics, had spent most of the morning hours under the waters of Ottarnic Pond operating the diver-assisted suction harvester (DASH) unit. Tethered by air, she traveled through the water’s murky bottom operating the DASH unit to suck up the Milfoil and Fanwort that have been growing in Ottarnic Pond for years.

“Because of the hot weather, the pond had become full of algae, and that made it difficult for us,” stated Bob. “We had to be very careful and selective as we harvested the lake, as we did not want to disturb the natural growth.” AB Aquatics was not able to continue the harvesting of Robinson Pond as the pond had recently been chemically treated, according to Karen Mercer. “We worked with the DES and it was determined that Robinson Pond needed another chemical treatment” before the use of the DASH unit, she said. “We treated the pond on July 19. As it takes 30 days for the pellets to take full effect, the decision was made to hold off on Robinson Pond for a while. It would be premature to dive now. We will see if AB Aquatics can come back the end of August or beginning of September.”

Unsanitary, Not Secured, and Abandoned by Doug Robinson

It is said that a picture can tell a thousand

words. However, this story will not be 1,000 words. This story is about an unsanitary, not secured, and abandoned piece of property located at 6 Charbonneau St. in Hudson. According to documents dated July 7, 2010,

filed by Town Administrator Steve Malizia to the Hudson Board of

Selectmen, both Hudson’s Town Attorney and Hudson’s Zoning Administrator requested that they “find an Order to Correct Hazardous

Buildings” against said property. “The property is abandoned, has not been

Court. Should the owners choose not to take action, the Town will coordinate the necessary action(s) to clean up the property with the Court’s approval and will lien the property for the Town’s costs.”

In addition, “the carport is littered with exposed refuse and debris, which constitutes a fire hazard and/or hazard to the public health, safety, and welfare,” continues the memo. The

maintained, and is unsanitary and not secured against unauthorized entry, and has therefore been deemed a hazard to the public health, safety, and welfare,” states the memo. “The owners of the property will receive the notice and have the right to respond to this order at the Nashua District

owners of the property have “30 days to comply.” Should the owner not comply, “a motion for summary enforcement” shall result. “Any costs,

including cost of repairs, razing or removal, attorney fees, and expenses incurred in bringing the Property into compliance shall be enforced as a lien against the Property and shall be levied and collected in the same manner as tax liens,” states the memo.

online. “We hope that the public will call us and let us know who owns the merchandise that we have recovered,” said Chief Lavoie. In the Hudson Police Detective’s office, a map identifying the locations for most of the robberies has been created. This map assists the police with their ongoing investigation. Citizens are asked to be vigilant, and

to be very observant as to what is going on in their neighborhoods. “Should you suspect that something is not right, please call us right away,” stated Chief Lavoie.
