Using 2009 data and working to a 2012 deadline, Courtauld Commitment 2 moves away from solely weight-based targets and aims to achieve more sustainable use of resources over the entire lifecycle of products, throughout the whole supply chain.


Liz Goodwin, WRAP’s CEO, said that partnership working would become increasingly important.


“As you all know, the second phase of Courtauld looks at what can be achieved across the entire retail supply chain. In other words, we have to recognise that the biggest changes come when we consider the entire lifecycle of a product and its packaging.


“That means working together to make changes from the point of production right through to the point of household impact - partnership in the truest sense.”


LIFETIME AWARD TO DAVID TYSON


David Tyson has been awarded the Honorary Lifetime Membership award at the 37th AGM and Annual Luncheon of the Packaging and Films Association. David has retired after five years as PAFA’s Chief Executive and the award, made by Chairman David Beeby, paid tribute to his continuous commitment to the flexible packaging industry and the Association.


In front of an audience of more than 150 business leaders, Government representatives and industry colleagues from the UK and Europe, David Beeby praised the support given by David Tyson to the industry, “David has always


been there for the industry with his unique blend of strategic wisdom and cheerful cooperation. He has been a constant force for our industry and it is a great honour on behalf of PAFA to thank him for his support by formally presenting him with this award.”


David spent over 40 years in the industry, working for Reed Group, Smith & Nephew, Venus Packaging, Metal Closures, Sidlaw and Danisco. His latest industry position was as European Market Director, Frozen Foods, with Amcor Flexibles, part of the global Amcor packaging business. He had been a long- serving member of the Association’s Management Committee.
