NiklaPET gets put through its
paces at Ipex 2010 Austrian-based specialist label papers and flexible packaging papers producer Brigl & Bergmeister had it’s NiklaPET label papers demonstrating their print speed and versatility on printing press manufacturer Heidelberg’s presses at this year’s Ipex exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC. Brigl & Bergmeister’s exclusive UK agent Papico took an order for 100,000 sheets of NiklaPET, in weights of 80-85gsm, which was delivered to the show and put through its paces on three of Heidelberg’s high performance presses. NiklaPET was chosen by Heidelberg to not only show off the versatility of the presses, but also to demonstrate how well and how easily the respective presses will run high quality label paper, and also how quickly they can alternate from board to lightweight paper, without impeding upon the production speed. In addition NiklaPET is the most widely run label stock, which means that Heidelberg’s packaging customers who came to the stand were be able to relate to the paper and labels being run on the presses. Packing it in P
lastics and coated paper are among the most widely used packaging materials in the world.
And by far the most important factor in controlling the handling, sealing, quality and printing characteristics is permeability. Versaperm is a world leader in the technology of permeability measurement and it has upgraded its VTR (Vapour Transition Rate) meter. The new upgrade can be configured to measure
permeability for water as well as a wide range of other gasses such as Oxygen, Nitrogen, CO2 and Hydrocarbons. The meter can consistently measure the permeability of packaging or coatings, sometimes in as little as 30 minutes. Accuracies are in the PPM range for most gasses and the PPB range for some others. The Versaperm permeability meters’ highly automated computerised control makes it simple to use and allows it to measure several samples at a time. For more information call 01628 777668, email

OXOLIN THE NEW DEGRADABLE POLYETHYLENE FILM
Consumers and retailers are becoming increasingly concerned about packaging waste, in particular the amount going to landfill. LINPAC Packaging has responded to retailer and consumer concerns by to creating OxoLIN, a new degradable polythene based cling film ideal for any food product. The latest addition to LINPAC’s range of stretch films will also reduce the environmental impact of any irresponsible littering. OxoLIN has the same high quality properties as LINPAC’s existing range of
stretch films and complies with EU plastic food contact directives, as well as packaging and packaging waste directives. The oxo- degradable film contains specially formulated natural additives that allow it to break down slowly into fragments of molecular chains which can be assimilated by micro-organisms after its useful life, when exposed to light and heat.
