The Bedford County tax lists also

show a James Spurgeon listed in Colerain Township in 1783 and 84, shown taxed on 50 acres of land with two other Spurgeons shown: Samuel and Ezekiel who held land near each other on Town Creek. Whether this mentioned James Spurgeon is Sr. or Jr. isn’t shown, so Samuel and Ezekiel could either be his sons or his brothers. On 22 August 1786 James and Susannah Spurgeon sold 50 acres of land being situated on both sides of Town Creek near Ezekiel Spurgeon’s new house in Colerain Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. This was part of the 300 acres granted to him by his land patent of 1763, “Spurgeon’s Choice.” He sold this land to his son-in-law James Staton Collins and his daughter Elizabeth,119

they later selling it to her brother Ezekiel 7 October 1791, it being adjacent to his land.120
