Howzat for a backer board

ermacell has been used as a backer board to the rainscreen cladding along the fascia of ‘The Point,’ a new hospitality and events building at Lancashire County Cricket Ground. The new £12m development – designed by architects BDP - caters for a wide range of events, exhibitions and banquets. White painted Fermacell boards provide a backdrop for the LED lighting installed between the Fermacell and the polycarbonate cladding. The LED lighting has been installed across the whole of the fascia and a light-diffusing opal polycarbonate panel system placed over the top. Fermacell, long established as a versatile interior board was – after exhaustive tests - introduced to the exterior cladding market in 2008 as the cost-effective backer board for vented and EPS insulation rainscreen solutions. £500,000 state of the art Rhino house has been built at the West Midland Safari Park to accommodate a pair of Indian Rhinoceros. The BBA certified Sika Watertight Concrete system was an ideal choice for constructing the pool. It has many benefits over traditional methods of waterproofing, including simplified design coupled with time saving on site through the elimination of laborious detailing of tanking membranes. Sika Watertight Concrete incorporates two state-of-the-art powerful Sika admixtures. These work firstly by reducing the water cement ratio, whilst producing a highly workable concrete to aid placement and compaction, and secondly, by blocking the remaining capillary pores. Sika Watertight Concrete is used in conjunction with

T

he warmth of wood against the cool strength of granite provides a winning combination of products from Benchmark on the new £1.6 million Worcestershire County Cricket Club members and players pavilion. The Ceramic Granite and Wood Composite façades were specified to provide the sharp modern clean lines the design demanded, and were installed to all four elevations of the two-storey pavilion. The Wood Composite façade for the pavilion was specified in rich Rustic to sharply contrast with the natural tones of the unpolished Ceramic Granite façade; the glow of the wood against the light colour of the stone enhances the difference in texture between the two. The real wood veneers of the Wood Composite façades are sourced from sustainably managed forests, and a tough resin finish protects the wood against the effects of sunlight, chemical or

HE Simm at Hope University was a black 1.5m unit with an electrical heater capable of providing up to 22.5kW. The Rotowind can be supplied in any RAL colour or stainless steel and is suitable for doorways up to 3.5m high. It is available in three different formats to accommodate different styles of revolving door. A Door-Internal unit is mounted above the door and blows warm air into its inner sections. A Room-Side unit is also mounted above the door but blows across the room-side opening, and a Room-Side External unit that blows across the room-side opening but is mounted on the inside of the building rather than above the door. The hardwearing Ceramic Granite façade combines refined clays, quartz, feldspars and metal oxides to closely reproduce all the beauty and variation of natural granite or marble, but in comparison with naturally quarried materials, the loadings on the substructure and building exterior are dramatically reduced.
