ART OF NORWICH

Gathering together all things ‘Unique and Eclectic’ the essence The Good, The Mad and The Beautiful is captured in the returning exhibition, Art of Norwich. Local artists have again taken centre stage in this spectacular exhibition of locally produced art. The ‘Art of Norwich’ welcomes artists of all styles regardless of their expertise, and with the diverse and eclectic works of over 30 artists to check out, there is bound to be something to satisfy every visitor’s taste. The thirteenth day of this thirteenth "Art of Norwich" exhibition coincidentally falls on Friday 13th August...so they have decided to tempt fate by holding their private view on that evening. They will open their doors to the public between 7pm-9pm where they will offer a platform for other artists whose creations are not so suitable for hanging from the walls. For more information, please go to www.Art-of-Norwich.co.uk. Entry is free and the exhibition is open from 10am - 5pm everyday from the 2nd to the 14th August.

THE VEST IN TOWN

It’s an item of clothing that’s not celebrated nearly enough. Hasselhoff gave it stature in Baywatch, Rocky rocked it and there’ve been more than a few ladies making the vest a very desirable thread. Now, to celebrate the sleeveless wonder, there’s a musical festival being held in its honour – Vest-Fest Festival at Clarke’s on August 14th! Described as “The Uber Sexy, Kitsch Cool and no doubt the best thing Norwich has ever seen”, it returns with a stonking musical line-up including Tom Pearce, Normal for Norfolk – guaranteed to have you shitting your pants with laughter – Crumbs for Comfort, Third Rail, Collider, Darwin and the Dinosaur, Killamonjambo, The Jon Experience and to finish the night off, DJ Poindexter, playing Motown, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Party Breaks, Reggae, DubStep & Electronica. Tickets are available from Soundclash and are just £7 each, with some of the proceeds going to EACH Children’s charity. Don’t forget your vest!

The August bank holiday sees Rocks celebrate their official launch party with extra special guest TBC! Also, to blow those superstitious blues out of the water, there’s a Friday 13th special with a Dumbfoundus DJ set with live percussion and 80s theme fancy dress – they are number 13 after all! If you’re a musician and would like to play at Rocks or have any fresh ideas to put their way please contact ollymental@googlemail.com, but for now, check out Rocks Music Bar and Lounge on Facebook.

RIVERSIDE IN 3 DIMENSIONS!

With the film and TV industry looking decidedly multi- dimensional of late, it’s only fitting that the art world follows suit. Two artists that are ahead of the game are Joe Hill and Max Lowry, experts in 3D art creation. Their spectacular creations will be on display on the Piazza area of Riverside, in front of Odeon from August 20th to the beginning of September. There is a special theme to be announced, but you’ll just have to get down there to witness the surprise. The two artists create 3D-looking paintings on pavements that have boggled the minds of passers-by all over the country, making it look like the streets are alive with surfers, superheroes, canyons and crevasses. FRESH HAPPENINGS AT THE ‘FRONT!

The venue that’s quite possibly the spiritual home for many Norwich revellers, The Waterfront, is having a shake up. Week in week out, it’s given us the staples of our nightlife – from the indulgently cheesey 80s night, to the unbeatable mainstay for alternative lovin’ folk, Meltdown and all the specialist nights in between, but looking towards the Autumn, it’s not just a fresh calendar of gigs that’s gonna get our hearts racing towards night-time. A host of new nights are ready to take centre stage, and the opening hours get a literal more liberal, so watch this space for more info…
