DVD OF THE MONTH
Cemetry Junction Ricky Gervais takes a break from his attempt to conquer Hollywood and comes back home with his writing/directing partner Stephen Merchant for this coming-of-age comedy set in 1970s Reading. Cemetery Junction tells the tale of three blue collar friends as they
joke, drink and chase girls in 1970s Reading. Freddie is a dreamer who wishes to leave their working-class world but his friends, Bruce and Snork, are comfortable with the world they inhabit. As Freddie gets a new job and runs into old flame Julie the gang must face certain inevitabilities about their life and the future. Whilst certainly not as risqué as Gervais’ previous works (perhaps Merchant reins in that side of him) with its classic coming- of-age storyline and teenagers looking for more in life, Cemetery Junction is an unashamedly nostalgic view of 1970s life in the UK.
