T
he team here at Nursery Today have been incredibly busy! Firstly, we hosted the Nursery Today Golf Day, which was
a resounding success for all the 52 players taking to the fairway on such a hot and glorious June day. Good news – we had no reports of sun- stroke! You can read all about it and the winners on page 61 of this issue. As the recognised leading
worldwide UK nursery trade publication, both myself and Christine were invited by the show organisers (Reed Exhibitions Japan Ltd) to attend the Baby & Kids Expo in Tokyo, Japan. Even considering the long 12 hour flight, this proved a very worthwhile trip. Although there were no new products to note and report on, there were in excess of 140 exhibitors and the show experienced a very strong footfall with regard to visitors. An area of note perhaps with regard to this exhibition, was in my opinion, the lack of wheeled goods and car seats on display – something that we are just not used to here at our own UK trade events, or even at our European shows, which tend to be dominated by this category. Could this be a possible opportunity from
the perspective of an exhibitor from these sectors, especially when we consider the total number of visitors who attended this event? On a personal note, both myself
and Christine would like to take this opportunity to thank the show organisers of Baby & Kids Expo 2010 for their hospitality and helpfulness during our visit. Turn to page 54 to find out more. Moving on, it’s time for the trade to
start gearing up in readiness for Kind Und Jugend – 16th to 19th September. The industry will again meet at possibly the world’s leading event for the baby and toddler equipment sector in Cologne. The doors will open to provide
visitors to the exhibition with five halls housing around 800 companies from approximately 40 countries – that should keep everyone who attends busy during this four day event! Kind Und Jugend also celebrates their 50th anniversary this year. To mark this occasion, and with their own trade fair history in mind, exhibitors from the fields of fashion and design will be presenting their products on a Fashion High Street in Hall 11.3. The result will be a shopping street for products, collections and product lines from the area of children’s fashion, such
as clothing for babies and children, textiles and accessories. The unique atmosphere of style, design and quality will be supplemented by daily children’s fashion shows. Good news too for all those looking
to book flights and secure their entry tickets in advance. Lufthansa is the official airline of Kind Und Jugend 2010 and are offering exclusive special deals. In addition to the reduced airline tickets from Lufthansa, visitors traveling by train to Kind Und Jugend can also take advantage of the reduced train tickets on offer from Deutsche Bahn (German Railways). International flights to Cologne,
Düsseldorf, and Frankfurt can now be booked online for the period between 9th to 26th September at www.
lufthansa.com/meetingsandevents. After you enter the access code “DEZLE” the discount on the ticket will automatically be deducted from the original ticket price or even more attractive promotional offers will be presented. Furthermore, to assist you, this issue
of Nursery Today contains a Reader Offer – you can secure your entry passes at the special promotional rate of just €5! Visit the online ticket shop at
www.kindundjugend.com and enter the code NurseryToday when

UK Pavilion during your visit to Kind Und Jugend. This has increased in the number of exhibitors, with over 30 BPA members now showcasing their product ranges within this area! This pavilion now has only three exhibition stand spaces left, so if you are interested in exhibiting within this area, please contact Christel Davidson from the BPA as soon as possible to take advantage of the huge visibility and additional benefits the Pavilion can offer you. Phone: 0845 456 9570 or email:
