Innovations at Summit-Questa Montessori School

tudents and their families learn the importance of healthy eating, teamwork, and sustainable living via Summit-
Questa Montessori School’s Edible Schoolyard, a program to promote locally grown food where students and families work together to grow organic gardens throughout the school campus.
Radiant Peace Projects and Peace Curriculum - stu-
dents use skills they learn, such as conflict resolution, to promote a peaceful environment in the school, home and community. The students also work with the Radiant Peace Foundation and have won many national awards for their peace projects. Community Service - many of Summit-Questa Montessori
School’s community service projects are started and directed by both elementary and middle school students, volunteering for numerous causes. Environmental Awareness and Activism - the school’s
10-acre campus is an environmental oasis. The students study botany and environmental protection using the beautiful flora and fauna on the campus, and host a natural wetland preserve and native habitats. Students keep abreast of current issues in the world and contact politicians and other organizations to express their concerns. The school participates in various recycling programs. Digital Citizenship - a program for middle school stu-
dents. While building lifelong digital citizenship skills, students learn of their “digital footprint” on the world. They explore how they personally use digital media and discuss topics from cyber bullying to digital cheating.
