Dunbar Spring produces completely new springs in-house. Here they’re working on a 1200ºF piece of bar stock. The forge can burn as hot as 1500°-1800°F. Here they are rolling eyes to make a main leaf spring. They start by heating the end of this steel bar called the spring steel. Once the end is glowing, they remove it from the forge and place it in the sheer machine to create an angle on the steel, they then place the steel back into the forge to get it glowing hot again. Once it’s hot, it is removed from the forge and placed in the eye roller to roll a closed loop also called the eye. The eye
