Over-40s singletons, fret no more

Being single and over 40 can be a lonely experi- ence. Salsa classes, book clubs and a nightclub choice that’s essentially restricted to Flares, Reflex and Lava Lounge do not a vibrant social life make. And, to make matters worse, other singletons are relatively few and far between.

Enter Phoenix Life, a new social events and activities club for the single over-40s. A network for mature singletons looking for friendship (and maybe more), they promise to cater to all interests, whether you fancy a pub quiz, a dinner party or a

bout of white water rafting. As well as organising events, they offer a dedicated online social net- work. It’s a good alternative to online dating sites, offering comfortable environments in which to meet likeminded souls which avoids the social awkward- ness of that match.com first date. Membership costs £15 a month, with a one-off joining fee that’s currently priced at the special introductory rate of £25.

Gavin And Stacey: the tour

The incredible popularity of Gavin And Stacey has created unprecedented interest in the humble town of its setting, Barry, so it was surely only a matter of time before some entrepreneurial soul introduced heritage tours of the area based on the series. For £20, fans of Gavlar et al can enjoy an ironic appreciation of some of the landmarks of the series – landmarks that also happen to be charming fix- tures in Barry residents’ everyday lives. Tour-goers will get to encounter sensational real-life monu- ments such as ‘Stacey’s house’, the real Marco of Marco’s, Nessa’s slots arcade, Smithy’s local and the church where Nessa and Dave didn’t get married. Tours run every Saturday until Sat 4 Sept at 10am and 1.30pm, and last about three hours. Discounts for groups.
