Early in 2009, Breckenridge events adopted a historic theme, beginning with Ullr Fest in January, followed by the Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships later in the month. The Breck150 Celebration officially kicked off in April with a nod to the significance of the Breckenridge ski industry, which sustained the region after the departure of the local mining industry. The festivities continued through the annual Kingdom Days weekend in June and peaked with the Breck150 Anniversary Weekend in August.


The Anniversary Weekend included an unveiling of the time capsule from the old courthouse cornerstone


(and later


replacement of a new time capsule), a re-dedication of the courthouse by the Order of the Masons, live music on Ridge Street, film showings, a commemorative 5K run, speaker series, family


Anniversary Celebration in the Blue River Plaza. field day and bucket brigade, culminating with the


Breck150-related events drew more than 10,000 attendees and generated media coverage in a variety of outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, AAA Encompass, MSNBC.com, Dallas Morning News, TrueWest and Away.com. Ultimately, Breck150 media outreach – including a blog, newsletters and articles written for the Summit Daily News – netted $3.5 million in advertising equivalency and more than 41 million consumer impressions.
