transform a home, inside and out, into something dynamic that showcases it at its best.

FINE: How do you go about that process? Do you work with other companies or is it always a new adventure each time?

PF: Well first, we need to consider the various aspects of my work. When I’m consulting with clients, their needs and desires are first and foremost. I typically find that my clients have an idea, but cannot always articulate their desires. My style is to read past what they say and listen to what they truly mean. This is where my services truly start, translating their vision to my passion for their project. Another aspect of my business is renovations. As a seasoned

expert in window treatments, this is an area that most renovations require to truly enhance the feel and functionality of the home. I have a team of full- and part-time designers and manufacturers who assist me in various aspects of this work, whether it be window treatments, custom-fabricated furniture, or works of art.

companies, however, we custom design each

staging environment because every home needs something different. There’s

picking choice A or B from a staging company’s website; we provide high-performance, high-touch service from start to finish. So, in getting back to your original question, yes, it’s always

a new adventure. Depending on the project, the client or the home, I’ll do whatever I feel needs to happen to make it come together.

Where Interior Design Surpasses Art and Becomes Life aticle by: l.a. nelson photopgraphy by: Brent Haywood Photography

For example, when I came into this house I said we need

to upgrade the window coverings. I selected custom-made charcoal solar shades for this home, which allows in light while reducing glare and heat. Furthermore, this product is “green,” both by making the house more energy efficient and by utilizing greener manufacturing processes. As I’ve told many people, when I added the solar shades, I gave the house “sunglasses.” A challenge during upgrades is coordinating the schedules

of the various vendors and manufacturers . My services extend to assisting owners, particularly non-resident home owners, in coordinating management needs that properties may require during these upgrades, whether it be electrical updates, painting, or even plumbing, to make sure that the house doesn’t just look good, but operates in peak condition. Finally, there is staging. Not just any staging, but staging

excellence. In some cases, staging a home for sale may require some upgrades to various aspects of the home, allowing the property to be shown in its best light. As opposed to most staging

FINE: It seems that there’s a growing demand for home staging, to help highlight homes in a marketplace with so many homes for sale. Are there any additional steps you take when staging a home?

PF: Great question. When I stage a home for sale, my primary goal is to highlight the home’s best assets. Yet when people have lived in a home for many years, owners may still have energetic attachments to the home and the land underneath. To address these issues, I bring in feng shui artists, trained shamans, and various energy practitioners who assist in releasing the home’s energetic attachments.

MC: Exactly. In our latest staging project, Peter brought in an “earth acupuncture” specialist to neutralize the energies of the property, both in the home and on the land. Although not every technique is necessary for every project, Peter selects those based on his experience and his well-honed intuition about
