FINE | DE S IGN When you talk to Peter Filorio, you get the impression that

this is an underestimated man. As owner and lead designer of Peter Filorio Design, he seems a bit overqualified for the job. Or better said, he may just need a new title. Not that there’s anything wrong with “Interior Designer.” But given Peter’s experience, influences and vision, it just doesn’t cut it. Proof of this is as readily available as a photograph of his work or a walk-through of a recent project – all of which show his artistry and vision. Peter and his business partner Marc Carignan have succeeded in morphing their interior design firm into a business that surpasses existing trends and moves them full-view into a category all their own. And that’s just the way they like it. Peter Filorio’s background is as interesting as the custom-made

sculpture sitting in the foyer of his most recent renovation. He hails from Los Angeles, where he began his career almost 20 years ago. During this time, he has worked in various design fields including fashion. As co-producer of high-profile fashion

available in San Diego that’s nearly impossible to find in other large cities. He uses his business background to handle the finances, marketing, and logistics of the design firm, keeping projects on budget and on time. Peter’s most recent project is located in Escondido, California,

about which he sat down with FINE magazine to discuss. As this article interprets, this may be Peter Filorio Design’s most recent crowning achievement, and one that serves to remind us that life is best lived with purpose, intent… and a well-planned color scheme.

FINE: What is your specific experience here in San Diego as an Interior Designer?

PF: I’ve done every aspect of interior design from consulting, designing of indoor and outdoor spaces, renovations, and full- on staging for quick and high-priced sales. I get involved in every aspect of makeovers, directly and with my team. I totally

shows, he’s worked from New York to Miami to Los Angeles handling everything from start to finish. He even worked on the Hollywood & Highland Center and Kodak Theater’s grand opening shows. “These experiences,” Peter says, “including stage setup, lighting design, music selection, and casting have really helped my creativity blossom.” In addition to fashion, Peter is an accomplished horseman and his love for horses has allowed him to transform many ranches and equestrian properties. Peter’s partner, Marc Carignan, was a corporate executive in Silicon Valley. Once he committed to leaving the corporate world behind, he moved to San Diego with the goal of bringing some of the sophistication of the San Francisco

Bay Area with him. He is the author of the book, “Leading from the Inside Out,” and is a sought-after executive

coach. Like many San Diegans, Marc appreciates the casual country lifestyle

Design and Home Staging:

cater to the client’s needs and their style, whether contemporary, traditional, modern or Tuscan. I help my clients get clear of what they want, and then help them get out of the box and go to the next level. I’m always looking to turn my customers into fans. Our goal is to turn good designs into “fan-tabulous” results.

FINE: How is your business different from other interior designers? How do you set yourself apart?

PF: I cater to individuals who are looking for something unique or have additional needs, so I can be more like a concierge who handles everything from start to finish, especially for clients that live in different states. In addition to design, upgrades and staging that most designers do, I step it up! I bring in local artists to create and display original pieces of art, emphasizing colors I want to pull from the decor and create a special feeling in the home. I focus on the drama that the home needs to stand out, to feel warm, and to have a sense of sophistication. I
