Where are we? The Maldives

How did you get here? By private Learjet via the First Class Lounge in Singapore, all the way to the Maldives with a gin and tonic in hand, then transferred from the VIP airport terminal to a private floating villa on a vintage mahogany motor launch.

Who are you sharing your room with? I am sharing my room with three very special women, my daughters.

Is there anything you would like waiting for you in your room on arrival? Fresh fruit juice, an abundance of tropical flowers tastefully placed, and a very recent copy of The Times of London.

And the owner / manager? Stephen Long of the Sheraton Towers, Singapore.

Describe the hotel building, your room and the view... Endless ocean, beach and sky. Architecture that melts gently into the local environment. Exquisite detailing with subtle but indigenous touches of local flavour and culture. The room is welcoming, tastefully appointed, with a minimum of appropriate accessories. A combination of tactile finishes and a soothing colour scheme – one that works with the colour palette of the view, which doesn’t compete but actually enhances the viewing experience. Total privacy combined with seamless personal service – this is indeed unlike any other experience.

Who designed it? This resort’s design is an eclectic collaboration between Lord Norman Foster and the subtlety of the great Andrée Putman.

Who are you dining with this evening? 1. Steve Jobs 2. John Pilger 3. Avram Noam Chomsky 4. Ricky Gervais 5. Norman Fostr

Who’s manning the stoves? Gordon Ramsay

What’s the restaurant / bar like? Dramatic, intimate, soothing and comfortable; I am transported.

And what’s on the menu? I don’t know – I never order for myself. Starter: Something light, but interesting. Main: Please, surprise me. Dessert: Not too sweet please, I shall only take a bite – just make sure my kids are happy.

Would you like something to drink with that? Another gin and tonic, then a good solid red with my meal.

What CDs would like in your room? 1.Miles Davis 2. Nora Jones 3. By the time I get to third one I should be asleep...

What’s on the movie channel? 1. Re-runs of The Office – the British version 2. Discovery Channel 3. Trainspotting

And a book at bedtime? I read too much on airlines. Instead, I will sit and enjoy the sunset and then spot the constellations.

What’s in the mini-bar for a night cap? Champagne ‘mocktails’ for my girls and me.

Would you like a newspaper or magazine in the morning? The Times of London (the morning edition), Interior Design, and the Wall Street Journal.

What toiletries would you like to freshen up with? Bvlgari – the complete line.
