YOUNG BREEDERS

ABOVE LEFT Neil Brough of Border & Lakeland won the Best Set of Reasons in the Senior section, making the long trip down worthwhile.

ABOVE RIGHT Junior winner of the Best Set of Reasons was Tom Stone from the Shropshire Club.

LEFT There was plenty to concentrate on with three excellent classes for competitors to judge; heifers in milk, junior cows and senior cows. Over 150 competitors took part in the event.

competitors prepared themselves to deliver their reasons to the master judge, four new cows were brought out for the Linear Assessment classes, again split by age into junior, intermediate and senior sections.

Lunch was taken whilst the reason giving continued and once everyone had completed their days work, and had been fed, Mike and Shan’s nephew Brian Miller (Moorshard) delivered a master class of ring etiquette for judges and on reason giving, which was warmly received by the HYB members present. Sadly, technical problems delayed the prize giving and we were not able to announce the Linear Assessment results on the day; these will be awarded at the Weekend Rally in September. I would once again like to offer my sincere apologies to the competitors and supporters who travelled to Evesham for this unwelcome end to the day, but I hope it did not unduly detract from what had been a magnificent event and one that yet again demonstrated the depth of talent we have in HYB.

As is so often the case, prizes were spread around the country, although Border and Lakeland emerged as the winning team in the Stockjudging, whilst Linear Assessment team honours went to Lancashire and two pairs from South Wales. Holstein UK President Philip Davies was on hand to present the trophies with assistance from Hugh Ratcliffe of Genus ABS. I would like to thank the Miller family for hosting

such a fantastic day, along with all their helpers and leaders for their efforts and the national and local sponsors for their essential support.

Simon Gee 62 THE JOURNAL AUGUST 2010

LEFT Joint winner of the Junior stockjudging was Elizabeth Mercer of the Western Club.

BELOW Bob Lawrence of Lancashire was first placed Inter- mediate.
