Temple hosts game night, open house Temple Beth Sholom of the East Valley hosts a free “Nosh and Game Night” for young adults ages 21 through 35 years from 6 to 8 p.m. Tue., Aug. 17. Participants can bring a friend and a favorite card or board game. Refreshments will be served. Preregistration is required. In addition, Temple Beth Sholom offers a free Open House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sun, Aug. 8. Visitors meet the staff and the temple members. High Holiday services in Sun Lakes


A variety of High Holiday services for both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are hosted by Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation at the Sun Lakes Chapel in September.


Erev Rosh Hashanah begins at 7:30 p.m. Wed., Sept. 8, followed by Rosh Hashanah day services beginning at 10 a.m. Thu., Sept. 9. Tashlich ceremony is held later that day at 5 p.m. at the lake at Phase One. Kol Nidre service is at 7:30 p.m. Fri., Sept. 17. The ancient Kol Nidre chant will be rendered three times by Cantor Ronda Polesky, the choir and Jan Simez, assistant principal cellist for the Phoenix Symphony. Yom Kippur services begin with a 10 a.m. morning service on Sat., Sept. 18, with conversations with the rabbi to follow at 2 p.m. Afternoon Mincha service is at 3 p.m. and Yizkor, open to the public, at 4 p.m. Concluding Neelah service will be held at 5 p.m. Kevor Avot service begins at 10:30 a.m. Sun., Sept. 12 at the Valley of the Sun Cemetery. The traditional service honoring deceased loved ones and burying religious items no longer in use is open to the public; the public may bring such items to the service for burial. All services are led by Rabbi Irwin Wiener, Cantor Ronda Polesky and choir director Lana Oyer. High Holiday tickets are $25 per person for congregation members. The cost for family members who do not belong to the congregation or who do not have a reciprocal membership with another congregation is $50. Tickets for all other nonmembers are $80 per person.
