Downtown offers fun for young artists

Free hands-on art activities for children and dozens of local artists displaying their creations await visitors of the Downtown Chandler Art Walk, which runs from 5 to 9 p.m. every third Friday of the month in Downtown Chandler. See various art displays in galleries, purchase jewelry or just enjoy the sights and sounds of historic downtown Chandler.

There is plenty of free parking for visitors on the east side of Arizona Avenue or south of Kokopelli Bistro.

This is a free event sponsored by the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership. For more details, call 480-855-3539 or visit www.downtownchandler.org.

Try out for Phoenix Boys Choir

Auditions for the Phoenix Boys Choir are being scheduled for boys beginning at age 7 for the first two choir levels: Training and Cadet. Eligible boys should possess an unchanged, clear and pleasant singing voice and a good “ear” for music.

Parents interested in having their sons try out should call 602-264-5328, ext. 21 to schedule an appointment on one of these Saturdays: Aug. 21, Sept. 11 or 25, Oct. 16 or Nov. 13.

During the audition, parents and potential members have the opportunity to observe a typical rehearsal, talk with current parents and choir alumni. There will also be time to go over the program and ask questions. Previous choir experience is not required and there is no need to prepare audition material. Families will be informed immediately after the audition if their boys are accepted and at which choir level they will begin. Boys selected to join the choirs will be invited to become active members of the choir directly following their acceptance.

Scholarships and financial aid for tuition and other costs are available. Auditions are held at the Phoenix Boys Choir building at 1131 E. Missouri Ave., Phoenix. For more information, call or visit www.phoenixboyschoir.org.
