Youth Native American Family camp at Wild Horse

Make this a memorable summer vacation and learn about the ancient cultures of Pima and Maricopa people at a new Native American Family Exploration Camp at Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa. It’s an effort to continue its “commitment to tourism that inspires while it teaches” that the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa has created an educational and fun-fi lled retreat through an authentic and respectful journey of the Gila River Indian Community. For this program, Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort is bringing out esteemed Maricopa artisan Amil Pedro who leads a weekend culture-tracking workshop and Native American arts and crafts session for a limited number of young guests. Utilizing their “tracker packs,” a camoufl age backpack that they will receive upon check-in containing a compass, a bandana, a CSI engraved pencil, a note pad and their very own keepsake “Cultural Scene Investigator-CSI”

T-shirt, Pedro will lead them on an exploration into the surrounding environment, focusing on plants, animals, ancient ways of life and desert tracking skills. Following that, he will lead a two-hour arts and crafts session where young guests will have the opportunity to make beaded lanyards, arrowheads using ancient fl int-knapping methods, a bow and arrow for target practice, a custom-designed walking- stick and practice feather wrapping. Upon completion of his tracking course, the youth will be awarded an honorary certifi cate deeming them an offi cial “Cultural Scene Investigator” (CSI).

This package is suggested for children ages 5 to 12 and is on a fi rst-come, fi rst-served basis. Offered at $119 per night, families receive a guestroom, access for two children into the culture-tracking workshop, two “tracker pack” welcome amenities and the Children Under 12 Eat Free Program.
