Neighbors Register now for fall CGCC classes


To ensure space in desired fall classes at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, early registration is encouraged. The new semester begins Aug. 21. CGCC has two campuses. The Pecos Campus is located at Gilbert and the Loop 202 in Chandler, and the Williams Campus is located southeast of Power Road and the Loop 202 in Mesa.


Registration can be done in person at the college’s Pecos Campus in Chandler or Williams Campus in Mesa, over the phone by calling CGCC Admissions and Records at 480-732-7320 or online at www.my.maricopa.edu, where students can also check out the fall class schedule.


Professional advisors in the CGCC Advisement Center are available to help students create a plan to reach their educational goals. To set up an advisement appointment, call 480-732-7317.

45 Preconception focus of class at CRMC


Women and couples considering pregnancy, planning a pregnancy or in-between pregnancies get tips on how to improve the chances of having a healthy pregnancy and baby at a new preconception planning class offered by Chandler Regional Medical Center.


The free program is funded by a grant awarded by the March of Dimes. Topics include why preconception health is important, nutrition and folic acid supplementation, how to decrease certain types of birth defects and how to establish healthy behaviors before your pregnancy.


Classes are offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Mon., Aug. 23 or 6 to 9 p.m. Thu., Sept. 16 at the Morrison Building Auditorium at Chandler Regional Medical Center, located at 1875 W. Frye Rd. in Chandler; and 9 a.m. to noon Sat., Oct. 16, 9 a.m. to noon Sat., Nov. 13 and 6 to 9 p.m. Mon., Dec. 6 in the lower-level conference rooms at Chandler Regional Medical Center located at 475 S. Dobson Rd. in Chandler. Registration is required for the event by calling 877-728-5414 or emailing resourcelink@chw.edu.


Free skin cancer screening


Physicians from Banner Health will offer a free skin cancer screening to the general public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., July 31 at Banner Gateway Medical Center’s Grand Canyon Room, 1900 N. Higley Rd., on the southwest corner of Higley and US 60 in Gilbert.


The event is sponsored by the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center scheduled


to open on the Banner Gateway campus in fall 2011. Headquartered in Phoenix, Banner Health is one of the largest, nonprofi t health care systems in the country. Skin and sun protection and prevention information will also be available at the event. Screenings are limited and an appointment is required by calling 602-230-CARE (2273) or visiting www.bannerhealth.com/gateway.
