Vocalists needed for tribute to ‘The Who’


Singers who sound like Roger Daltrey or Pete Townshend can audition for a live performance called “A Musical Tribute to The Who” for the Division of Fine & Performing Arts at Paradise Valley Community College.


Auditions for “The Kitchen Witches,” a slapstick comedy about two cable- access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years, will be held by Tempe Little Theatre at 7 p.m. Mon., Aug. 2 and Tue., Aug. 3. This production, written by Caroline Smith, will be directed for TLT by Jack White. Needed are two women ages 50 to 60 and one man age 20 to 30. There are also two non-speaking roles to be cast. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. These are open auditions and no appointments will be given. Those interested in auditioning should bring a photo and resume if available. Auditions for Tempe’s only nonprofi t, all-volunteer theatre company will be held at the Tempe Performing Arts Center, 132 E. Sixth St., on the northwest corner of Forest and Sixth, east of the Tempe City Hall in downtown Tempe. Performance dates are at 8 p.m. Sept. 17, 18, 24, 25, Oct. 1, 2; at 2 p.m. Sept. 19, 25, 26, Oct. 2, 3; and at 7 p.m. Sept. 30. All performances will be held at the Tempe Center for the Arts at 700 W. Rio Salado Pkwy. at Tempe Town Lake. This production is supported in part by grants from the City of Tempe, the Salt River Project and the Arizona Commission on the arts with funding from the state of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts. Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $18 for seniors 55 and older and students. Tickets go on sale Aug. 24 and reservations can be made by calling the TCA box offi ce at 480-350-2822 or by visiting www.tempe.gov/TCA. Serious musicians may audition from noon to 6 p.m. Sat., Aug. 28 at the Center for the Performing Arts’ Music Hall at PVCC, 18401 N. 32 St. in Phoenix. Music Department Director Dr. Christopher Scinto says singers will be required to sing both lead and background vocals. An accompanist will be provided, or singers may accompany themselves on piano or guitar. The ability to read sheet music is preferred but not required, and singers will receive a small honorarium. Interested vocalists should prepare the following songs in the original key: Roger: “Baba O’Riley,” “Love, Reign O’er Me,” “Behind Blue Eyes;” Pete: “Eminence Front,” “Baba O’Riley” (middle section), “Bargain” (middle section). An ensemble of 15 professional musicians will perform the tribute Sat., Oct. 16 which will include 20 classic songs from the albums “Tommy,” “Who’s Next,” “My Generation,” “Quadrophenia” and “Face Dances.”

‘Little Mermaid’ makes splash on stage
