New EV Chapter Children’s Chorus holds auditions


For the fi rst time since the Phoenix Children’s Chorus organized 25 years ago, it has launched an East Valley chapter.


Auditions for Chandler children and teens entering second- through fi fth-grades during the 2010-11 school year will be at 5:30 p.m. Thu., Aug. 5 at Sirrine Elementary School, 591 W. Mesquite St. in Chandler, where rehearsals will also take place. Regular auditions for boys and girls entering second- through 12th-grades will be held at 4 p.m. Tue. Aug. 3 at Phoenix Center for Community Arts, 1202 N. Third St. in Phoenix.

Phoenix Children’s Chorus “fosters excellence in youth by facilitating artistic and musical development through choral education and performance,” and is, in part, sponsored by the City of Phoenix.

Special Open Mic Nights for teens are held in conjunction with the event from 7 to 10 p.m. July 21 and 28. Each evening is preceded by a free mentoring clinic held by professional musicians from 5 to 6 p.m. Soloists and small groups are welcome to perform.


Admission is free, and visitors to the exhibition can see videos, listen to music, play Wii Rock Band at the Best Buy at Tempe Marketplace Lounge and read books about Fender history. Items to be displayed in the exhibit include a variety of signed and special-edition guitars, instruments and accessories from Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, Jazz Master, OK Go, Avril Lavigne and more. A number of special-edition motorcycles will also be on display, along with additional Fender props and memorabilia.


Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays. Call the TCA Art Shop at 480-350-5660 for specifi c hours.
