“Denim, Dice and Deals” is the theme for the Arizona Business and Professional Women’s Foundation Casino Night held from 7 to 10 p.m. Sat., Sept. 25. Tickets cost $40 for the night of fun, food, casino games, silent auction and raffl e.


A portion of the proceeds will go toward scholarship money for women attending community colleges and technical schools in Arizona. The Arizona Business and Professional Women’s Foundation provides scholarships to women seeking to re-enter the work force or who need to update their skills.

Citizens interested in learning about the daily aspects of police work and what goes on behind the scenes are sought by the Chandler Police Department for the Citizen Academy, which offers classroom and hands-on experience in the fi eld of police work. The next academy begins on Aug. 25.


“The goal of the academy is to give citizens a better understanding of police work and how offi cers make decisions,” says Sgt. Joe Favazzo, public information offi cer for the Chandler Police Department. Courses taught during the academy include Media and the Law, Firearms Training, Gang Awareness, Patrol Functions, the K-9 Program, Criminal Investigations, Narcotics, Traffi c Law, the Special Assignment Unit and Use of Force.


July 17 - Aug. 6, 2010 BPW hosts Casino Night Applicants sought for Citizen Academy


Sessions are taught from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday evenings at the main precinct of the Chandler Police Department and last for 13 weeks.


Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, or 15 if accompanied by a parent, and work, live or attend school in Chandler. Those interested in participating cannot have a prior felony conviction or misdemeanor arrest within six months of their academy application. All applicants must pass a basic background check conducted by the police department.


Prospective applicants can apply online at www. chandlerpd.com under “Community-Citizens Academy” or have an application mailed to them by contacting the Crime Prevention Unit at 480-782-4521.
