PREMIER OF ALBERTA Ed Stelmach


Premier Ed Stelmach has rural Alberta and agricultural roots that run very deep. His grandparents established their Alberta homestead almost 100 years ago, on a farm he still calls home today. Together with his


He is a tireless advocate for all Alberta communities and their interests. In May of this year, Premier Stelmach went to Asia as part of the New West Partnership with Saskatchewan and British Columbia. A key part of the mission was a meeting with senior officials in China to promote Alberta’s agricultural interests. A few weeks after the visit, China signed a new agreement with Canada that will open the door for Alberta beef products in China.


Premier Stelmach entered provincial politics in 1993 and was elected MLA in the Vegreville-Viking constituency. He was re-elected to his fif th


term as an MLA on March 3, 2008, where he also led the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta to a resounding mandate. Prior to becoming Premier in December 2006, he held four cabinet posts as Minister of Agriculture, Infrastructure, Transportation, and International and Intergovernmental Relations.


Premier Stelmach is extremely pleased to be a part of the 2010 Medicine Hat Exhibi t ion and Stampede; a long-standing Medicine Hat tradition.


HONOURARY PARADE MARSHALL Laurie Sharland


We are very pleased and proud to have Laurie Sharland a long-time director and past chair for the Queen Committee as our 2010 Honorary Parade Marshall for 2010. Laurie is one of only a few women to have served on the board. In 1994 she was appointed Associate Director then Life Director in 2006. She has given unselfishly of her time for over 35 years of service to the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede. We all are very fortunate to have Laurie on the board and to be able to honour her in this way. Thank-you Laurie!
