Manchester. The Pythons are working hard on improving their individual skills, as well as playing together with each other. “It’s been a pretty good summer so far and we’re
having a lot of fun,” Pelham coach Matt Regan said. “We’re not out here trying to coach plays. We’re just having some fun throwing the ball around.” The preparation will get a little more serious
A Pelham lacrosse player gets by a member of Team Free Agent this past Monday at Southern New Hampshire University
by Chris White Even when you’re playing competitive sports
for your high school, there are times when it’s all right to just concentrate on having fun. That’s the case for the Pelham High School boys’ lacrosse program this summer. After advancing to the Division 3 semifinals this past spring, Pelham’s lacrosse athletes are enjoying their time competing in a summer league up at Southern New Hampshire University in
when the regular season draws closer and the team plays in its winter league. But for right now, the Pythons are just focusing on getting out there on the field and keeping their stick skills fresh, Regan explained. The effort that Pelham’s players are putting in between now and the beginning of next season is all part of the master plan of making a run at the Division 3 state title in 2011. The Pythons own a 1-3 record at Southern New Hampshire so far this summer, but have played against some of New Hampshire’s elite lacrosse teams from all divisions. Most recently, the Pythons fell to Team Free Agent by the score of 6-4 on Monday, July 12. Team Free Agent featured players from accomplished New Hampshire programs such as Pinkerton and Manchester Central. Pelham scored the game’s first goal within the
first five minutes, but Team Free Agent tied it up a couple minutes later and eventually took the lead with just under 12 minutes to play in the first

half. Pelham hung tough for the rest of the game, though, and it looked like the Pythons were going to take the lead back early in the second half, but the bounces continued to go Team Free Agent’s way until the final horn sounded. Pelham looked good during competition, and
played well together as a team. There was a good mix of players out on the field for the Pythons— some varsity veterans and some JV players from last season, plus some incoming freshmen. Some of the team’s more experienced guys tried playing new positions, while others were just trying to get
Windham Athletes Help BG to Tennis Title
by Chris White This past season was one to remember for the Bishop Guertin (BG) girls’ tennis team. For the first time since 2005, BG won it all by taking home the Class L trophy after defeating Manchester Central at the Derryfield School in Manchester last month. Not only did the victory make the Cards the best in the state, it also capped an undefeated season for them. Julia Filler and Elizabeth Tousignant-
Miller, both Windham residents, were major contributors to BG’s storybook season. Filler, who recently completed her junior year, excelled as the team’s number-five singles player all spring. She contributed an 8-3 win over her opponent in the number-five singles match to help the Cards take the title over Central. Filler’s victory was one of four singles victories for BG that day, and the Cards went on to clinch the championship victory in the doubles round. Maybe even more important than a state title, both Filler and Tousignant-Miller excel in the classroom as well. Both girls are honor roll students, and they help fill out a BG roster that is loaded with academic talent. With
the feel of the game at the high school level. In addition to the summer lacrosse league, two
of Pelham’s top players are currently playing for the prestigious New Hampshire Tomahawks AAU program that operates out of Manchester. Alec Paradis and Peter Soonthornprapuet have become the first Pythons ever to play for the Tomahawks, one of the top lacrosse programs in the country. Paradis is actually competing on the program’s elite team. The two players will look to gain exposure
while playing for the team, as the Tomahawks have sent a number of athletes on to play college lacrosse.
