Forensic Science National Diploma (Level 3)
This course is for you if you are interested in a career in Forensic Science. The course provides you with opportunities to develop basic skills, knowledge and understanding through experiencing the range and types of activity that you will be expected to carry out for the police or in a forensic laboratory.
Content
Contents include scientific principles, introduction to genetic engineering, biology for forensic science, chemical and physical forensic science, tragic accident investigation, introduction to forensic psychology, forensic fire investigation, ICT and Forensic science and criminal investigation procedures, forensic informatics, laboratory organization and workplace practices.
The course will include visits and visiting speakers from the police and forensic psychologists. The course includes communication key skills at level 2/3.
Assessment Method Continuous assessment. All vocational units are assessed internally except for key skills communication.
Career Opportunities
Higher education or crime scene investigator for the police or forensic science officer in a forensic laboratory.
Entry requirements Education: A good high school leaving certificate (at least 12 years of school education) or a related level 2 qualification.
Level of English: IELTS: 5.5 (5.0 minimum in each section) or equivalent.
