General English
General English 3 if you:
is suitable
• need to communicate in English in everyday situations
• want to obtain Cambridge English qualifications to help your career
• want English classes that include a focus on living and working in the UK
• want to prepare for other English studies
• want to progress to Academic English, University Foundation Programme or other studies but have an Intermediate level and are not yet ready for these
Course Content
• You will work on all language skills: grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing,
listening, speaking and pronunciation.
• Classes include cultural aspects of communication and skills for UK life.
• Support at every step before and during your studies with us.
• Self-study material, including audio and video, and internet / E-mail in our Learning Resource Centre.
Qualifications You can prepare for a Cambridge English exam such as First or Advanced Certificate. Some students achieve 2 or 3 of these during their time with us.
Progression You can progress to one of South Thames College’s undergraduate or postgraduate courses or find a job.
1 If places are available after a course has started and you want to study for more than 1 term, you can join a course, after it has started, on any Monday in the first half of a term.
2 If you study General English in the morning you can add English top-up classes to make your study programme 18, 20 or 21 hours per week (see page 18).

3 Some General English classes have additional lessons with a trainee; you will be told in advance and fees are slightly reduced.
