DIRECTOR’S CHOICE

Falstaff Mid Wales Opera

Mid Wales Opera Chamber Orchestra

Martin Lloyd-Evans Director Nicholas Cleobury Conductor

Verdi’s operatic masterpiece features one of the world’s greatest stage characters in a sparkling drama of young love and old foolishness. Sung in English with its scintillating musical score, a bubbling comedy it might be …. but it is anything but superficial.

This innovative production by one of the foremost British touring opera companies, is the first under its new Artistic Director Nicholas Cleobury.

Those who love life at its richest cannot help but love Falstaff in all its glory.

Soprano Saxophone Leader Oboe

A programme of wonderful pieces reworked to feature the soprano saxophone played by one of its leading exponents John Harle, including Zipoli’s Adagio for Oboe, Cello and Strings; Nyman’s The Piano Sings; Warlock’s Capriol Suite; Albinoni’s Double Concerto for Oboe and Soprano Saxophone and Country Dances by Richard Rodney Bennett.

‘Harle’s tone control which makes the top register of the legendarily temperamental soprano saxophone sound like a chorister, is one of the most remarkable phenomena on the contemporary music scene.’ (The Guardian)
