Northland Paving in Scarborough has built an exceptional reputation for quality and serv- ice in an industry known for come-and-go con- tractors – and the company’s 25 years of success will continue as the next generation as- sumes responsibilities for the thriving paving and exterior design/services contractor. Brandon Yazdani, son of founders Bruce and Gillian, says his father established the busi- ness in 1986. He started small with simple projects and lots of drive.


“At the start, he had one dump truck and one bobcat – as he didn’t have enough money for a trailer, he used a couple of planks of wood to load the bobcat on the truck to deliver it to the sites.” Today, Northland Paving has a fleet of trucks, paving machines, bobcats, rollers and other resources – and the company typically has four crews working on paving, interlocking


stonework, and “our niche, asphalt and inter- locking stone combinations.” About half of the the company’s business is residential, focusing in the Scarborough area. Northland Paving has built a reputation within the community for reliability. By focusing in one area, the company saves on travel costs and achieves higher efficiency. “Our crews can do upwards of 10 jobs in a day,” Yazdani said. The remainder of the company’s work is commercial – it recently successfully com- pleted a complex and challenging paving proj- ect for the new BMW MINI dealership. That project “was truly unique,” Bruce Yazdani said. “Most commercial parking lots are nothing but straight and big.


“This one had many dynamic angles and


three different types of materials instead of flat asphalt paving. We used interlocking stone, as- phalt and concrete. It came together as a work
