Flex IT Centres
Flex IT Centres are friendly, relaxed learning environments where you can learn to use a computer. Courses are available to everyone from beginner to advanced level. Before starting your course you will chat to one of our tutors who will help you decide which is the right course for you. This may involve an assessment of your literacy skills.
You may or may not choose to study for a nationally recognised qualification, and will be guided about which level to start at. Within our opening hours you can choose how much time you wish to spend learning, and when you would like to do this*. You can join courses at any time throughout the year.
*at some centres this may be restricted at certain times of the year.
The Range of Qualifications
e-Type This is a new qualification from the British Computer Society (BCS) that teaches you how to touch type in a fun and easy way. You can work towards a bronze, silver or gold award.
iTQ
These IT user qualifications are available from Level 1 to Level 3. Each unit is offered and assessed individually. Each topic has a credit value and by building up the number of credits you achieve you can obtain a qualification at either Award or Certificate level.

• Improving Productivity using IT • Database Software • Desktop Publishing Software • Using Email and Internet • Presentation Software • Spreadsheet Software • Word Processing Software • Website Software (Dreamweaver)
European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
The ECDL is split into two levels. ECDL Essentials is the Level 1 qualification and ECDL Extra is the Level 2 qualification.
The units studied are: Level 1
• IT User Fundamentals • Using Email and the Internet • Security for IT Users
Level 2
• Word Processing • Spreadsheet • Presentation Software • Improving Productivity Using IT
Advanced ECDL
Advanced ECDL (Level 3) will allow you to demonstrate a higher level of computer skills; successful completion will show that you are confident, competent and efficient in one of the four available topics. Topics are:
• Word Processing • Databases • Spreadsheets • Presentation Graphics
