By 2050, nearly 70 percent of the world’s estimated 10 billion inhabitants will be part of massive urban networks, according to the Population Division of the UN’s Department of Economic and Social Affairs.


Large cities require a massive supporting infrastructure, including public transportation, highway systems, power supply, waste management, and water treatment, as well as supply chains for everything from food to consumer goods to construction materials.


Tokyo is one of the largest cities in the world, in addition to being one of the most densely populated. Nevertheless, the city consistently ranks as one of the world’s most liveable places due to its transportation system, cultural attractions, and the high-quality goods and services it offers.
