A New Life and New Beginning...

fter 18 years of cooking Directors Lunches for a fi rm in the City of London, rationalisation had left her bereft of a


permanent job. A subsequent spell as a freelance cook for Lumley’s and the up and coming caterers Jalapeño took her to cook in some of the grandest houses in the country, introduced her to new clientele and confi rmed her desire to move out of the metropolis and to build up her own business based on a developing circle of contacts and recommendations. Together with Richard who was then renting an apartment in the former Mendip Hospital near Wells, Lorna began the search for her new home in the country.


‘Initially I was convinced that I should locate


to a property as close as possible to Bath. I didn’t want to live in the city, but I had several respectable clients in the area. However as time slipped by and with no suitable houses becoming available, I began to look further afi eld.’ The area around Wells was a logical choice. My fl at in London was on the market and buyers were snapping at my heals. Richard’s apartment was large enough to store all our belongings and I had already cooked for a number of families in the city’ ‘I was made an offer I just could not refuse. I accepted, packed up – and left!’ It was shortly after this that the call came through to view the cottage and despite numerous glaring
