NICK

Nick the Goldendoodle

Nick is a superstar because she does good work for others. She is the sweetest, most mellow dog ever, who loves everyone. Nick works as a therapy dog and her sweet disposition helps her to do a great job. Nick works at the Woodward Park Children’s Library and was the first reading therapy dog in the area. Nick visits schools, assisted living centers, and works with Alzheimer’s patients. She loves being with people and making them feel better.

Currently, Nick is the cover girl of The Goldendoodle Calendar, and last month. She and her mom/owner (Karan Johnson) won the Canine Couture contest for pet-and-owner look-alikes at Paul Mitchell the School.

Nick has had Puppy Obedience training, Beginning Obedience training, and Advanced Obedience train- ing, all with Melody Daggs. Her therapy dog training was with Kirsten Riggs and she attended dog camp in Lake Tahoe and Medford, Oregon.

Nick loves Natural Balance lamb rolls, and her favorite treat is a bully stick. Her favorite toy is a ten- nis ball. She LOVES balls and loves to fetch them and her favorite thing to do is chase a ball on a beach. Since she is a water dog on both sides (she is a cross between a standard poodle and a golden retriever) she loves to swim. Nick’s favorite outfit is her therapy dog vest because she knows that when she wears is, she is going to work.

Nick’s Perception With Children

Nick and her mom/owner were at their regular gig at the children’s library. In walked a boy about 7, and with him, his mom and his severely disabled brother. This child was non-verbal, and in a wheelchair with contorted limbs. Nick was lying down, listening to the older brother as he read to her. The boy’s mother put the younger brother on the floor so he could be closer to Nick. All at once, he reached out and grabbed a fistful of Nick’s hair and yanked hard. She jerked around, looked at the boy pulling her hair and just settled ... just looking at him, not growling or trying to get away. Then --- she wagged her tail
