Not So’ Purrrfect Angels A Non-Profit, No-Kill Sanctuary for Felines
By Janice Rozzano
We are a Non-Profit No-Kill Sanctuary for Purrrfect Felines and their friends. We currently have 230 cats residing. We receive our cats from the streets and occasionally from an owner who has to go into assisted living or a nursing home. As well as those who have passed away. We also have taken in some from owners for behavioral reasons that they have not been able to resolve.
We are located amongst the vineyards in SE Fresno on 4 acres. We are currently utilizing 2 acres and have room to expand. All our feline residents have indoor and outdoor access as we have a cat fenced outdoor area along with out buildings which are heated and air-conditioned. They also have access to the residence.
We have a wonderful area for cats who have been diagnosed with Feline Aids and have 25 FIV positive cats currently residing in Ruby’s Garden. Aids kitties can live a very long and happy life given the right circumstances. Our oldest Aids cat is approaching 20 years and we have had him since 1997.
We also have one of the only areas in CA for Feline Leukemia positive cats. Currently our set up will only allow for 6 -8 cats. We are hoping to expand that area in the near future as most of the cats that are diagnosed with Feline Leukemia are euthanized because they do have to be kept separate from other cats. Most Leukemia positive cats only live 2 or 3 years past diagnosis and stress plays a large role in the acceleration of that disease.
We have a strict Adoption Policy as most of our cats are rescued from the streets and dangerous situations, we want to be sure that they are never returned to that situation again. We adopt only to those homes who will keep them indoors or who have a protected environment outside by kennel or cat fencing. We also are the only Cat Sanctuary locally that performs house visits prior to the adop- tion being finalized. This practice is very common in other areas, just not here, not for cats.
We currently have a Seniors Foster Care Program which is set up for Senior Citizens who would love to have a dog/cat companion however due to
