decided not to run the NVQ level 2 in the handling of hazardous and non hazardous waste because it would be too difficult for us to do so, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact running the NVQ would have been the easy option for ARCA but certainly not the best option for our members. After consulting widely with the ARCA membership it was clear that an assessment centre based qualification was the overwhelming choice of the membership. Terefore the difficult option for ARCA was to create brand new qualifications which met the requirements of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Asbestos Liaison Group (ALG) Work Plan and ARCA members preferred assessment method, which has been achieved. I would like to thank the training team and particularly Satish Patel for all the hard work that has been put in to develop the scheme, produce the assessment documentation and conduct the pilot assessments. I look forward to informing you that qualifications at Contracts Manager and Company Director level are available in the near future. Members may have seen the For Sale sign above

suitable locations are being considered. Te sale of ARCA House and the purchase of new premises are now at an advanced stage and contracts should be exchanged soon. I am confident that I will be reporting at the Annual General Meeting in October that we have purchased new premises and will be relocating to them around Christmas 2010.

Te internet is now without doubt the main

tool for people to search for goods and services, including the services offered by ARCA and ATAC members. As a result a complete overhaul of the ARCA and ATAC websites has been undertaken with a view to making members far more visible on the search the engines, particularly Google which has the lion’s share of the market. Hundreds of individual web pages have been constructed to cover all the towns and counties that both our ATAC and ARCA members operate in. Tese pages have been optimised for certain

key phrases such as asbestos testing, asbestos consultancy and asbestos removal. Tis will make them highly visible to the search engines and hence obtain high ranks and propel them to the top of the search engine listings. Initial research on the performance of the ATAC listings is extremely encouraging and the pages are currently out performing Yell.com on the identified key phrases. Te ARCA site is currently nearing completion and expectations for the performance of the member’s web pages with the search engines are high, I hope to be reporting on the success of this initiative in the next issue.
